Why? To play Scrabble with your family in an expensive way...

It would help if they compared it to something that isn't a shitty ebook reader....like this: http://www.entourageedge.com/devices/entourage-edge.html

they also compare it to the JooJoo in that graph, which is arguably the only tablet alternative

that Entourage Edge you link, is that suppose to be better than the iPad or worse? looks pretty shitty :)

Wow, that things look like it is straight from a chinese gadget shop. They just added all the features they could come up with, without a solid concept. I bet the software is proprietary, half-assed and buggy. Just take a look at the youtube video to see how slow it responds to any input.

Ifone anyone?

zomg, look what I found here USB powered plasma ball !!!

D'oh, exactly as predicted:

Quote:
Yes, the Edge is a combination e-reader and a Android tablet -- it just doesn't quite work well as either. For $499 there are just too many issues with it, including its chunky body, skimpy e-book selection, frustrating touchscreen, poor battery life and lack of Android apps. While promised software updates may yet fix enough issues and enable enough features to perhaps make it a decent textbook replacement for some students, we just can't say that its worth the cash right now. And so our wait continues.

I thought the interviewer sounded immature and as if he didn't really have a point to make. It's not news that Apple's platforms are closed, and Jobs neatly pointed out that they're closed because the closed-platform concept is what Apple customers want. This extends to excluding apps that Apple do not find appropriate for their business model and branding philosophy. Meanwhile open platforms exist for anyone who does not want to be an Apple customer.

I hate Apple products with a passion but one thing I hate more are all those people who go, "wow, this Apple product is so cool and shiny, but I want it to be different in this and that way or otherwise Apple is Hitler!" No, nobody is forcing you, you either buy the product or you don't. You can even buy an iPad or iPhone and "jailbreak" it, then it becomes a lot more open, and you only lose access to those Apple-provided services that you hate so much anyway.

Geez.

As a professional developer for handheld systems, you can't really ignore Apple devices, no matter how much you want. Denying that Apple have a powerful influence on the software and hardware world is impossible without lying or being completely uninformed. I wouldn't care about Apple at all if they didn't have power.

doom: you don't even lose access to native apple stuff if you jailbreak it :) there are literally no downsides to it =)

Yeah but it's like mainstream music.
It isn't really good, unless you don't know better then to go with the flow.
And it's not what people who actually love music want.
I'm glad we got that cleared up!
