Suggestion for any bp replacement: Have a single compo for Amiga 68060 and Atari Falcon 68060 demos.

and drop the c64 compos!

What? Are you crazy?

I'd go for a combined C64/Atari XL compo maybe, but never drop them.

My 2 cents :

- Who ever takeover the easter weekend has a HIGH BENCHMARK to reach
- 1000 PPL cause problems where organizers of smaller parties ( 100 - 400 ) never thought of !
- YOU NEED THE LOCAL POLITICS behind you.
- YOU NEED MASSIVE SPONSORING - nobody will pay 100 Bucks for entry.
- YOU NEED live next to the partyplace , remote management fails.
- YOU NEED to convince the "left" sceners from BP to help to do that event.

- The partyplace must have an airport around ( < 50 kms )

This are only the basic basics ...

Me personally i would never want to burn my hands to move with a party to the "big hole" BP left,
in my eyes, i would only fail and disappoint people thrusting and coming in advance.
Also the extraordinary ambience last years BP makes it way harder.

I really prefer to grow up a party with all ups and downs and learn slowly to advance / optimize things.

A from zero to 1000 ppl party can only held by one of the EXPERIENCED people from the core BP team. Someone who knows what he´s doing well. Know the wikis and numbers of last years.
Or who did 500 people and + parties before ...

And even then its a matter of thrust the sceners have in this new project, its not easy to convince people to make long distance trips ( lot of BP visitors have been international ( non germans ) ).

To counter-weight h2o´s comment a bit I´d like to state that I would really like to support a new easter party as much as possible.
Easter is by far the best time of year for "the big one", since it has been like that for years.
Not having a large party during easter could mean it would be difficult to get some sceners back into the habit of taking some days off from work and/or family during easter.

Can I chip in and say please allow remote entries? By all means preselect but banning them with the scene this small is counterproductive these days. All you end up with is less people making demos, some of us who still do releases don't go to demoparties.

4mat: breakpoint usually had lots of entries, and allowing remote entries would probably have tripled them. too many entries mean preselection resulting in unhappy competitors and/or long and boring compos. preselection is always subjective, and with remote submissions it would be an even harder task (should an entry submitted locally at the party be ranked higher in preselection than a remote submission? because imho it's way more discouraging to go to a demoparty and not pass preselection because of 38258 quality remote entries, than sitting at home and not being able to enter at all. )

also, lots of smaller parties do allow remote submissions, and i don't see a problem with remote entries in general when the chance of getting too many entries in a compo is rather low. and supporting small parties with releases is way more productive than remote submitting a yet another techno-tune at a major demoparty. but that's just my two cents. <3

on the other hand, there were some compos at this years breakpoint which could have had more entries, like the 96k game-compo. but i'm not too sure if a rule like "if a compo had less than 6 entries in the previous year, it's open for remote submissions" would make sense. it's a difficult subject. glad i don't have to decide this ;)

now do your remote entry for rewired already ffs!!11

If you want to relase your prod outside a party just upload it to pouët. What's the point in releasing it at a party if you're not there to watch it?

Well, if there's a live-feed it's kinda fun to watch your release
