Diskmag engine?

category: general [glöplog]
Hello!

I saw the game release chart diskmag, and noticed that it has just some releases, and no articles...

I thought of finding a way to contact their EDITOR to offer articles or something, but then I decided, that I won't do that...

I want to make a diskmag about game making, and related scene, like cracktros, trainers, hacking, modding, procedural content generation, etc...

But I have no idea of where to start...
Someone know of a diskmag engine that I can use, or study the source? Or how to make a diskmag engine... (I am programmer, but I dunno where to start, and I don't have much time to research how to start another project now...)

Learn to write compelling articles (aka not the retarded drivel usually found in other pc diskmags).

I know how to write good articles, I have a blog (in portuguese...) about game development (nothing technical, only newbie stuff, like where to study). But I wanted a cool way to deliver...

Why diskmag, and not a webpage, or a PDF mag?
Well, there are in my language, 2 PDF mags (that ended dieing after some issues). In english, there are several PDF mags too, mostly paid (like Game Developer Magazine). And some online ones...

But this is mostly focused on mainstream stuff, and... boring.

I want to make a diskmag, with cool articles about indies (Uplink, anyone?), procedural (Elite! Noctis...), cool art, even cooler music (like... Siren! Yeah, that dude makes game music, and his game music rock! I mean, it is not rock... but... aaah, you get it.)

Of course, it will need a crew, I make art and shiny interfaces good as a pig can fly, but noone wants to work on something that is only "planned", so if needed I will make the first issue myself, alone, with articles solely by me... Then ask people to help (but only if needed! If someone happens to help with the first issue, I would love it!)

And that is it!

I promise to not put extraneous dots on my articles too.

and the "diskmag engine" that Hugi uses is free for use (google for "dragan+diskmag+panorama") that should get you started if you really wanna go that way.

The PC diskmags are more or less dead somehow...

Like... pain. :/ I talk constantly with a member of pain team, and even he has no idea of what happened... So...

I will, when I get a better internet (their download sizes are fucking huge Oo it took me 3 months to have courage to attempt hugi 34)

Oh, I forgot to say: Their site for some reason never loads on my machine too (it keeps forever loading something from symantec)

today downlaod speeds, actually only a minority has broadband...

Yes, a good portion of europe, and half of the US has broadband, but that is it...

I have a 1mbit connection, for 70 USD, and it is hell unstable (it does not stay connected for long... and the actual speed vary wildly, from 1mbit to 21kbps. Also the ping of the connection is usually 200ms, or more).

bummer becoz hugi#36 is a diskmag and musicdisk in one so its size is around 70mb ;-)

you could enjoy the online version but the .exe is much more enjoyable imho

Thank you...

So, no diskmag has the engine available?

i see no reason to start a diskmag - i think you should either support the existing ones or make a blog. blogs are more accessible to people than downloadable disk mags with windows binaries.
speeder: see this quote from maali:
