Who cares about charts ?

category: general [glöplog]

According to the post about couloir 14, the charts are taking a great importance in some people's mind. But really, are they that important ?

I mean, there is already the possibility to post comments, and it is far more interesting than a senseless and unpersonnal vote. Ok some people can get an erection seeing their prod raising, so what ?

We're not at primary school, we DON'T need those fucking classifications. If you like a demo, make your own advertising around you instead of letting the charts do it for yourself.

It's time to put and end to charts and let people think by themselves.

I value the charts as much as a dead mule myself.

Putting an end to the charts and 'let people think by themselves' however seem hardly related. It's not as IF people are forcibly being influenced by the charts itself (right?) Charts like these are always have been and will be unreliable, learn to live with it man.

blah blah blah

blah ?

I changed the chart calculation for the index, for a new more accurate one (and way more heavy for the server, but a computer job is to compute)

I won't tell the algorithm used until the new system has been well accepted by the majority.

bläh !

i'm agree with AK, and Shifter too

top ten influence lots of small gloppers who go on pouet only one time in a month :(
top ten is a good way for non scene people to discover our art :)

so,
-dont care about charts and see lots of prods if you want
-be a sheep and see only more rated prods if you want

make the choice yourself, the most important is : make demoscene alive, and produce some piece of art and explode our eyes and our minds :)
These charts give me a good idea of what other Pouet people think are the best prods. Which is why I asked about Colouir (is that right?) 14 in the first place - out of curiosity, not to start a flamewar. I don't believe this top 10 to be the most accurate, and not a top 10 I agree with either. But I see Analogue changed the charts methodology anyway, and it works fine for me :). So I guess you can go to the beach or something rather than wasting your time with this thread ("stop this thread!" posts are useless and a bit offensive).

Crap, I meant to post this to the other thread obviously, oh well, they're both related. :)

In fact, the real problem with Couloir 14 is not its place in the top 10, but its name :))

Fucking french guys.

then my suggestion for our next demo title will be something french ('merde', 'baguette 14')...it seems to get you in the charts here.

what you suggest about the french though, ak..nah, I'd rather not. I'm a heterosexual myself =)

Imagine yourself that you are on pouët.net to download some demoscene productions for the first time, after an advice of a friend. What do yo download? How on earth are you gonna find something GOOD among all the thousands of submitted prods here at pouët.net? You look at the charts of course. If there were no charts you would have had to click on "Prods", and browsed through the 3000+ prods, possibly looking for those with high popularity. In that sense I think charts are great. For the seasoned scener, they are essentially of no use, but to the newbie, great use.

bah.. I'm drunk and dead tired, so don't pay much attention to me.. good night....

seasoned scener can also look at the latest added prods, or look for a certain party...

as a gateway pouet.net datas are arranged to allow to browse it easily (you can click a party, then a prod, then on its group...see the group prods in other parties... it's endless )

there's also the RANDOM button which (sometime) gives some good surprises

Speaking of witch, it would be nice if it would be possible to maybe see the last 100-added productions, since the current list is waaaaaaaaay to short for in my opnion ;-)
further more, it would also be nice if one could do a party-search instead of group/prod.
http://www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?order=added
and
http://www.pouet.net/parties.php

I know the website is not very clear, but I don't want it to be overcrowded by links ^^

fractalgp, if i tell a newbie to go on pouet to download some demos, maybe i can tell him which demos he can download ;)

Anyway, i agree, charts are a good way to find 'so called' cool demos quickly. The problem is that people get pretty mad about those classifications, just have a look at the Couloir 14 thread. The solution could be NOT calling it "charts", in fact. Any propositions for a name are open ;)

By the way, in the Couloir 14 thread, fred was talking about a top-10 form for each Pouet user. I think it could be a great idea, maybe combined to the vote system.

Well voila. Au fait mais QUI a du caca kaki collé au cucu jusqu'au kiki ? I'd like to know.
