Music for your Demos

category: music [glöplog]
Demoscene is just 100% cheating these days - musicians use external applications and prerender their songs, 3d artists use modeling software to create 3d models, artists use photoshop etc. the list goest on! I have even heard of some groups using google image search for graphics!

Programmers using visual studio and other ides! CHEATING!
Programmers using directx and opengl! CHEATING!

I suggest pouet should delete every production with prerendered content and if you are not sure just delete it anyway - the algos used to generate the content are propably stolen from web anyway!

MACHINE CODE OR GTFO!

I still don't get why soundtracks are allowed to be mp3s, when demos are not allowed to be video. It feels a bit like cheating.

What a moronic thing to say.

The output of any musical composition is the music, in a format that someone can play.
The output of any graphical composition is the graphics, in a format that someone can view.
The output of any software programming is the application, that people can execute.

Your logic is flawed beyond belief, and your attitude is stupid. :)

trc: so what's your solution?

@gloom: you know, there still are people who believe it's easier to make mp3 than module. I guess this old rumour comes from the fact music app came with samples and predone loops... as if guys using trackers never ripped any samples or downloaded any akai sample cds.
And what would happened? He would get known in the scene as someone with "amazing samples" and wow, truth is he just clicked, chose, cut, loop whatever. I thought that now, in 2010, people were like hypocrit about it but lately, ve've noticed people are still lying a lot about their samples or, they just don't talk much about it.
kaneel: I just don't subscribe to the idea that one particular technique of making music is somehow "more demoscene" than another. Crap music is crap music and great music is great music, no matter HOW it is made.

I love how your two sentences don't connect at all :) I don't think "demoscene music" says anything about crap vs great.

yeah basically, I never said I really agreed witgh what he said, neither I completely agree with you. I was just giving my idea about why guys like trc could say what he just said.

And don't, oh please don't, bring a discussion about good and crap music. Oh, too late, the thread is over.
(but still, some people could tell that it's the demoscene, at least, the musician could generate some of the samples he used, damn :)
I bet trc would be happy if we just render our songs to wav and put it inside xm module.

(Or if there was some restrictive size limit for invidual samples in xm, we could also chop the wav to bunch of one pattern long samples)

Can we let the guy get his thread back now?
@sauli: well, that's been already done :(
@lord graga: no sorry.

knl: yep, of course it's done, but the point was that playing a mod file is more demoscenish than playing a mp3.

you know about these people who explain their jokes... you just did it to me :(
case closed!

If you have that point of view, why don't you say that using the adresses which handles the screen in machine code to make something graphical isnt cheating too then? Everything is based around that in the long run.
Gargaj: know any active demogroups in need of a synth/VSTi coder? :)

If people were interested, they would have told you so by now. Bumping your own thread is pretty lame.
