SynENGiNE

category: offtopic [glöplog]
I think demo makers widen the quality spectrum of demos - it's pretty easy to do _something_ with them so they raise the amount of bad quality releases.
On the other hand we've seen that they also allow people to push the bar a lot higher thereby raising the amount of jawdropper prods. Granted, such releases can be done without demotools too but unless you're a Navis level genius it's a lot easier.

it just matters if you want your demos to be coder driven or artist driven
The engine has been rewritten totally now, almost everything has changed. And im working on the last part, then ill make a demo and show you guys, so please check this site once in a while.

skrebbel:
that doom screenshot obviously shows the minimap with a custom .wad loaded =) you can see it because of the players own position (the couple o white pixels on the bottom left).

That shows that you have no clue what you are actually doing. Well done!
STARDREAMERS, wasn't you supposed to release that demo today ?

Saga: actually, it's pretty common to rewrite an engine on the very first versions, where it's still not doing anything, for design problems, or improvements in the early stages...

... what you don't do, is advertise and make a dev-log of something which hasn't yet been even designed :-)

I wonder if he even got a pen and paper and did any design about it :)

Well, that's actually my point. Of course you revise your ideas several times, but that should be done mostly on paper (or in your favourite text editor if you don't know what handwriting means) and not as part of the actual coding work. And since it's the very beginning of a projects, there's no need to brag about what you have planned already.

unclex, are you allowed to discuss here?
we all know you're not using tools!
please write a createSquare()-tool first, then return!

styx^hcr damn, you got me :-(

ps. my demomaking tools this week have been openoffice 2.2 calc, and after that failed, perl. I also resized a particle asset in irfanview.

Hey! It's perfectly legitimate to start implementing a program before you've thought the design through, as long as you expect the first few attempts to fail. Learning by doing, you know. That's not just for beginners, mind. Even the 1337est coders run into unknown territory from time to time and don't know where to begin. Sometimes the best approach is to try, fail, and repeat.

That's still no excuse for blogging, though.

Working on alot of things though, this is just a small something. It wont involve much as far as effects go.
Will continue work on the tool with more features, etc. So don't expect too much in the short intro I posted above.
doesn't work on mac
