Someone need a music for his demo to release to the Main ?

category: music [glöplog]
@psonice I would be curious to drop a hear at your music...

let's take as example the guy that finnished 1ST at the Music Compo last year at the Main. You don't have probably a clue about all the knowledge that is behind this tune.

And I'm not just talking about just composing but about mixing and mastering.
open you ears and try to understand what I mean.

if a fool can do that in 1 hour with Garage Band I can give you my balls to cut.

psonice is not dissing the skill it takes to make music. He just explained that music is the most entry level thing to do in the scene and because of that, there are a lot of musicians floating around.

When I started in the scene, every group had like 4 musicians battling whose track would be used in the demo. There were many demos that had multiple songs in them as well, to please everybody (megademos owned)

Hell, Brainstorm has like 37 musicians!

No, no. What I mean is if you *give* a fool one hour with garageband or whatever they'll produce a tune.

Maybe I wasn't too clear there.. obviously a quality tune takes time to produce and takes plenty of skill. I know that well after spending tons of time doing it in the old days and maybe reaching average quality at best ;)

What I was trying to say is if you take 3 unskilled, untalented people, give each one hour to make a tune, a picture or code something, chances are the music will be most enjoyable at the end. I think it's because music is quite easy to understand (compared to code at least :) and the tools make it easy to produce something acceptable without much skill. Acceptable, not good. It would take somebody pretty talented with plenty of experience to make something good in an hour.

That makes it pretty appealing if you're looking to do something in the scene. It's easy to start, but there's still tons of skills + software to learn if you want to be good. Which is why I suspect there's a lot of musicians in the scene.

Not agree at all...

The music will be the reflect of the "Hello world" code by the unskilled coder. that's all.

When you are unskilled in music, you don't know what a kick is, you don't know what a snare is, you don't have a clue of what a drummer is doing, and also you can ask to anybody that is not related to music to sing what the bass is playing and he will not be able too.

so it will be a mess as much in music than in coding than in gfx (as stupid example I could say that it was easier for me to draw under mac paint when I was 12YO than doing music)

I'm not agree with you *at all*. and it's my personnal point of view.

There are lot of musicians in the scene, but that's probably not because music is easier to do.

I strongly believe there is a lot of musicians in the scene because when people discover tracking and start tracking, they discover about the demoscene and finds it close to what they were already listenning when playing their favourites modules.

When someone get a hand on 3DS or Pshop, he doesn't necesarily hear about the demoscene and even if he does hear about it, he doesn't necesarily believe he's close to this scene...

Guys, truth uncovered, you all owe me a beer.
I actually notice I only tookt he example of tracker musicians but we could also easily find an explanation for other DAW musicians. Lemme research about it.
I agree, however. Garage Band is easier to get started with than vi/gcc.

senseless discussion is senseless :p

@gibs it doesnt matter the competition. if you wanna make music and feel like it has a good place in the scene just do it. enter compos and/or submit to one of those 100 music/mod sites and collect the feedback to improve.

Or just collect the feedback and keep on just doing what you want :)
gibs: a beginner after 1 hour of coding is likely to have hello world, white text, black background. They're going to spend many more hours learning and reading boring docs before they get to write a plasma. And many more still before they'll have a demo running.

Graphics, yeah it's easy to pick up a tool and sketch something. But not that many people can make something good.

Music: yeah, after 1 hour, it's your musical hello world. But it's going to sound cool to the person who made it, and probably bearable to anyone else. The results are pretty instant, it's fun learning with a fast start.

Again, I'm not suggesting it's easy to make awesome music and you can do it in an hour. I'm saying it's easier to start, and possibly more fun :)

asd probably needs amusic
what maali just said reminds me, that I often read "someone needs aMUSIC for his demo to release to the main" when I am on the pouet frontpage :)
and I realize we are on page 3 already and there's still no sample of the track flying around? :)

scene radio guys, if you don't know what group they're in just write Brainstorm and it's probably been true at some point.
