Are coders becoming obselete in the demoscene?

Seriously, I challenge you to give an example of your claim. And it has to be a recent demo. I believe the effects you are referring to are mainly "coder-effects" which are not really appreciated anymore.

You are absolutely right, i have no reference of a good recent demo, because all recent demos are pure shit. Nowadays you got only boring 3d envmapped spikeballs or whatever, because everybody's doing the same shit as the others are, and i claim that is *partially* because the demotools that are limited to certain functionality.

And yes, i was referring to coder-effects, which are the best effects there is. If you think coder-effects arent appreciated anymore, you are WRONG mister.

I miss the good old days when there was Orange and 216's raytracers, and everybody else making tunnels... :)

rainmaker: if you (and enough other people) miss the good old days of software-rendering and no hardware 3d, lots of 2D effects etc., why don't you try to get an "old-skool-compo" up? becouse there are fast 3d cards dosn't mean, that you have to use them. if you say "with software only like back there wasn't any hardware you have no chance in an demo-compo", make an own compo for those old-skool-demos! if there are enough people who would code some software-effect-demos, perhaps there will be a compo on a party....

And that hardware has absolutely nothing to do with the concept Rainmaker is trying to get through your thick skull you retard.

(mostly) agree

agree

don't agree :)

I thought 216's raytracer was a fake? (Polygonrenderer with postprocessing)

Well, at least we have FANs raytracing demos.

so let us all get back to the roots. the graphicans pixels their graphics and logos with dpaint2 (on pc). the code will be completely done in assembly and the whole demo will run with ms-dos and soundblaster 128 support. ;)
come on guy's! i think using tools is a logical evolution (not only within the scene).
some parts of the code are always the same. for example a scroll-text is a scroll-text. i don't mind that a coder still codes that routine from the scratch. i think he will use his old routine (maybe he will optimize it or fix some bugs).
so why not puting all these routines into one big package and call it demotool. that will make it easyer for other members (graphicans, musicans) to create their stuff. and it doesn't makes the coder needless. their must be someone who's coding that tool, creating new effects and so on.
guess that's all.

fuck you all, i'm gonna start coding effect-only-demos without any artwork at all.

Yeah, of course they are fake. I just talked with 216 yesterday and he laughed at everyone who actually think that those intros are really raytraced. It's impossible to code a realtime raytracer that works on a 486!!1 Right?-)

Tools are ok, as long as you put a 'This demo was made using blahblah tool' somewhere in your demo.

And it compos, maybe it should also be mentioned (just like 'oldskool demo', 'amiga/c64/pc demo' etc.) before the show, along with the name and group.

kusma: Are you gonna use music in those or is your code enought entertainment? :-)

I wonder how you are going to use 24bit colors in your coderdemo? I think EGA colors are sufficient. Well, you could do some really exciting RGB plasma.

Of course not, but nobody wants to see this today :)

rainmaker: Of course relatime raytracing on 486 is possible.

Only that 216 wasn't good enough and had to fake it.

Yeahwell.

please, someone implement a MAKE COOL button to werkzeug.
Makes me wonder when we are going to see the first unauthorized popular demo remix :)

nah, i'll just convert some old sid-tunes to mp3 and play them backwards...

makes me wonder if not nearly all demos at the next breakpoint are based on the werkkzeug engine:)
added on the 2004-07-01 19:54:11 by scythe scythe
scythe: Why? There are enought groups which respect farbrausch and what they have done, but are so pride on their own attainments they wouldn't use .werkzeug1. And using a demotool which isn't coded by you means you have to learn how to use it. And you need some creativity for achieving a good demo. bla
scythe, MadenMann: Plus it is more fun to code something yourself then just use otherones tools (if you are a coder, if your are in a graphicans, musicans only group you will perhaps use it).
There are enough coder which want to code on ;-)

it was just a joke... sorry 'bout that
added on the 2004-07-01 23:10:16 by scythe scythe
I don't like this type of jokes. I like jokes like "Weißt du, was ich mit dem Zepalei abgemacht hab?" - "Nee, du?" - "Ja, die Wimpel vom Vorzelt"
i said sorry. it was nothing against the scene nor against farbrausch.
it was a misunderstanding.

btw. madenmann. i don't understand your joke.
guess it's not my kind of humor. ;)
