Probably discussed many times but it's worth another shot.

What about keeping the BB Image but removing the BB Image and the BB Image.

And by removing I mean that all the piggies and sucks will turn into just comments.

The more BB Image the better the prod is, the less BB Image the worse the prod is.

I just dislike negativity, and this "simple" change would make pouet a much more constructive and positive community.

I'm sure trolls will just include a thumb down image in the comment, but that's just an extra step they'll have to do.

Please.

1. How do you tell the difference between a hated prod and an undiscovered classic with no votes?

2. We have to keep the fuck you.

I kind of agree on the negativity thing, some people are just going to bitch no matter what, but surely we can tell the difference between a lame troll and a thumb down with a good reason? And surely we can appreciate negative feedback too? Personally I see some thumbs down on my work as an incentive to do better next time (or go for a real fuck you hardnoise demo to beat the thumbdown score like nosfe \o/ )

Also a ton of thumbdowns is a good warning that you're about to waste your time :)

trace has a very good point here.

This "negativity" is a human flaw, a bug, IMHO.

I hope you can tell who your real "enemies" are (assuming they actually exist).

Well, I'm way past my bed-time so once again, take this with a BIG grain of salt ;)

this topic probably filled entire books. more than one of them.

there's a flipside to everything, that's how things keep in balance.

I'm probably not making any sense here to most of you so let me just say:

keep the peace. keep it real.

p.s.: about the voting suggestion: yep, "like" is all we need. let the rest be lost in oblivion.

BB Image

would become this:

BB Image

which also makes me think about the popularity column, but lets leave that for another time...

Actually, could it be done a bit more clearer:

BB Image

This way we can to easily see the amount of thumb ups, and the amount of comments (pig) which would be independent from each other.

I would like to see the ability to vote without leaving a comment. Its just that its not always you can leave an intelligent comment or say something thats not been said a lot already.

trace>Yea, the "like" system you suggest could be a nice simplification of the voting system, even if I don't think thumbs down are that bad.

+1 front243
I think this can be a solution for more constructive comments.

I mean : you can vote for the prod (with the actual system, a 5 stars mark, or trace's suggestion), and earn your glop. And you leave a comment only if you have something interesting to write (and if you leave a stupid comment, you will look stupid... or maybe forbid comments with less than xx chars? / ban the trolls) and independantly of your vote.

That way, there will be less comments, but only the good ones.

Well it's hard to predict actually, and it's a big change (and more work for the gloperators), but I think this could work.

(and voting = 1 glop / commenting = 2 glops for example)

pouet needs a "im feeling lucky" button which has a 50/50 chance of giving you a glöp or rickroll you ;)
on the topic:
i also dont like negativity and downvoting, i think people who dont like a certain prod should just get a nice cup of stfu. but i also know that trolls will be trolls and haters will be haters, downthumb or no downthumb.

what i would like are different stages of positivity. there are weak thumbs and strong thumbs.
maybe a 0-5 star-rating (0 to 5 stars?) would be a better thing to do, but it would be really hard to convert all the thumbs already given. maybe pouet as it is should be archived somewhere and version 2.0 (if it ever gets done) should just delete all comments and start over - at least it would be a nice excuse to look at all those glorious releases again you commented on years ago already ;)

(0 to 5 stars?)=(0 to 5 thumbs?)

I used to run a site that used 0 to 5 star system. Even if it was a very positive community I always considered that a mistake - it over complicated things, technically and for the user.

i think it's a good idea. also it'll remove all the "im down thumbing this because it doesnt run on my ancient hardware". also - removing the pigs and the down-thumb would allow people to "change their mind".

xernobyl: you made my day, seriously. :)
Why not down-vote a product? There's a lot of shit on pouet.
I don't care much about glöps. The "Coup de coeur" is a nice thing, but that's it. But giving people more glöps for comments maybe doesn't help the quality of the comments...

I'd say a "0-5 star-system" is a good thing, because there are some demos that are awesome, some are just good etc. The "Coup de coeur" helps with that a bit, true, but you don't have many and spare them for the awesome demos only. And it removes the need for down-voting: You vote, but give 0 stars.

What is also a good idea is voting without having to leave a comment. That would probably remove a lot of "noise" from the prod pages...

Just my $2ct...

I whole-heartedly support this, simply because being negative in text is enough - you want to give power to positivity, not negativity.

Also: a 5-star system is not the way to go. Everyone is moving away from star-ranking because 99% of people just use the 0 or 5 anyway, rendering the system pointless.

Give a thumb if you like it, and nothing if you think it's okay or dislike it. It would most likely make people think twice about using it as well, which is not a bad thing.
