WANTED: original author of a certain song

category: music [glöplog]
Hello peepz!

I've been roaming the web and several boards with this issue for many years now (I guess it's been 10 years now) and now is your turn to try and help me!

Back in the days of lé old Trax In Space, there was an artist called Psychic Mind who eventually was blamed to be a ripoff - which he was, ripping off others' music and claiming them to be his work of art. One of those ripped songs was Psychic Mind - The Travellers Journey and I've been looking everywhere in search of the original author and song title, so far no luck. Some lucky bets have included a game soundtrack of some sort, some lost song by Nightbeat and all kinds of random hints. What I do know is that the original song used to be located in mp3.com back in the days when the site really flourished. We're talking early 00's here.

Any help regarding this is highly appreciated and whoever finds the original song and author will get a random reward!

Get the biggest spotlight you can, project an image of bacon into the night sky and maybe m0d will notice and answer your question.

Good luck! :)

Last time I checked with m0d he didn't know either :/

This thing has really been bugging me (and a few others as well). Maybe one day!

Have you gone through Skaven/Future Crews 81 songs on modarchive? He made a few tracks in that style, but I haven't heard that particular one before as far as I remember.

Also sounds a bit like something Awesome could have made.. but this doesnt sound tracked in one of the traditional oldskool trackers.. so no idea.

It does sound like old samples just oomphed up with a bit of reverb though (smth you can easily achieve by rendering from MPT). I thought it could've been Nitzer but i checked and it was not, he's technically a bit off ;)

Cheers for checking this out, still no luck though :(

As said, the original song didn't exist at TiS but at mp3.com, so odds are it's not really a tracker tune. The sounds are in fact quite cheesy and tracker'ish, yet the production value indicate a usage of something similar to MPT, maybe even Cubase or such a sequencer.

Maybe Psychic Mind knows who the original artist is ;)? Just a thought. I guess it might be difficult to get a hold of the guy nowadays, though ;).

Sounds a bit like a tune entered in a music compo in the norwegian computer magazine TEKNO wish often covered the scene.
It was hosted by Bjorn Lynne i think and featured a few songs like this one, might even be one of them.

Ill see if i can find the CDs.....

I tried contacting Psychic Mind years ago, but as you'd imagine... he's a hard man to reach. I remember the guy who apparently found out about the whole ripping scheme, but unfortunately he (a98) couldn't remember what the tune was.

velo, awesome news, can't wait to hear more about this...!

Could be some old material by Bjorn Lynne? http://www.lynnemusic.com/downloadshop.html

Think it's easier to wait for Gloom to ask Björn if he knows it (3 posts above) ;-)

I gave it a listen but unfortunately I don't recognize it, or its style. Sorry!

Wow, this thread reads like a nostalgia trip for me. TiS, DJ Nutsack, Future Crew, Awesome.... I need to get back into this scene :)
The style is orchestral/new age or something similar. It's possible that the song was made before 2000, but I'm really not sure.

Thanks a lot you all for the effort!

just out of curiosity: what do you want to do once you know the author? what do you want to archive by searching? Is it like finding a childhood hero, or just curiosity? Do you want to do a coop with him, or use his music and give proper credit?
Often the search and research for sth. like this is the best part of it. :-)
