do you think the sound in demoparties is too loud?

category: parties [glöplog]
LAUTAAAAAAAHHHHH!
while I agree that too much noice over a long period is annoying, I still don't like quiet parties. I mean - aren't demoparties supposed to be everything but like an everyday environment?
seriously: it's dark all the time, you sit at a computer for long times and if you don't you party hard, you don't sleep enough, you eat jung food, you drink too much alcohol or lemonade or both, the chairs are usually not comfy, neither are the tables and working in such an environment is nothing you would ever accept everywhere else. so. yeah.
to be honest, exactly all that is what makes a demoparty for me. without wanting to diss american demoparties, but whenever I see those pictures of parties at hotels or conference centres I think, that it doesn't look like a real demoparty :)

#ponce: Trust me, we had way more than 4hrs of silence at every BP, at least as far as the official PA was concerned. My usual rule was to STFU at 2am or sth (when all events for the night are over) and don't use the PA before 11 or 12 unless there was something really important to announce. That's more than 8h of silence per night. Also, we tried to keep quiet between events, and the complaints that we didn't use the big screen and PA for showing more stuff during those times were quite numerous. Also there was at least 30mins of silence before and after every concert or the scene.org awards or whatever.

I was quite impressed with the sound pressure and first of all quality of the speakers that a few fuckers were bringing to the party every year tho. Happend more than once that I woke up and immediately looked who was abusing our PA - only to find out that, nope, the sound came from somewhere in the hall. :)

then again.. i've heard that most french parties are fucking silent at night and also during compos little mayhem. and when i visited numerica that statement was confirmed. iow, french people are just fucking pussies! :P
its ok.. you also know in front what to expect...

BUT

a rave party in the sleeping hall @ the party 1995 has not been repeated ever since ;-)

Sound @ BP was loud RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SPEAKERS...
At the grandstand the soundlevel was very calm and perfect for people that are not into mega loud music.
However the grandstand is not really and option anymore ;)

magic: you dont go to parties anyway. so stfu
I thought the volume was loud just because the real party IS outside.
Kindergarden 2007 was loud. I don't know if it was too loud, but the logs from the brændestak kept falling on my head.

OMG, tp5.. what a disaster.. They had additional speaker stacks in the middle of the hall, without delay compensation.. FUCK!

I think the official sound at BP2010 wasfine, but other people in the hall with random music made it way too noisy during the day.
Quiet nights were much better. Maybe I'll sleep during the day next time to avoid most of the problem, but then I'll miss the compos (where it's ok to have loud sound, of course).
as for breakpoint. considering i am quite an insomniac the formula is: drink enough and you'll sleep thru anything... happened to me 3 out of 12 nights over 4 breakpoints. dont drink enough happened to me quite a few nights the other nights were 'how did the formula go again?' :P
"do you think we're getting too old to do this stuff?"

outline is perfect.

i agree with thec. and im biased as fuck! ;)
I agree with thec and Maali - Outline is perfect, though having a proper building with decent-ish soundproofing, which the venue at Eersel appears to have, helps rather a lot. The loud music / sounds are on when they need to be for the compos and during the day, but during the later evening once the liveacts are finished then things do become more restful. Certainly being 4-5 dorms away from the main room helps but not a lot of noise is carried even as a result.

The worst party IMO for loud, continuous and obnoxious music which felt like it was on 24/7 was MS2k2. Although that also included some of the compos, most notably the Wild, with Crimson Jihad's infamous (and rightly disqualified) entry.

Alternative Party did have its moments in the very early years where sleeping areas (where they could be grabbed) were a bit too close to the main hall but I will stress that this was in their early years; things have improved a lot since then, whether ppl sleep at the Cable Factory or elsewhere you're guaranteed a decent nights sleep when you get the computer place ticket.

Sundown was also good too - sleeping at the partyplace there in 2009 the music was turned off around 2.30-3am or possibly a bit earlier; mainly to allow residents nearby to get some sleep ....... interestingly enough, even though the residents there are mainly elderly a number of them heard the music compos from outside, had a nose in and were rather impressed with the general quality of the music. One gent said at one point to me that it was lovely to hear quality-produced music compared to the rubbish on TV!

@kb_ : ok. But in practice the intended 8+ hours of silence at night did not happen, but 4h with the private PAs. As it seems from this thread that nobody really cares about basic health, I will be happy not go to any such "party" anymore.

for basic health.. book a hotel.. for hardcore party experience.. deal with noise!
Maali + 1...
also, it's called a party, so what?

at bp2k10 I dont remember falling asleep in the hall but i DO remember being waken by some compojingle around 10.30ish ;)
still i think noise and music belong to party nonstop. the in-between-compos-and-stuff shouldnt be as high but complete silence would be awkward as well.
i couldve lived without the notorious porn noise comin outa the metalvotze direction, tho ;)

anyway. partying IS important. dont be sissies.
