SCENERS RIPPING OFF SCENERS

category: offtopic [glöplog]
48 hours passed, and no reply to the mail I sent to Roy. What a nice and respectful way to be a "scener" for him.

The intros that he posted here couple years ago show the same exceptional eye for style and design.

could someone fill me in on the earlier roy/sac controversy?
serpent: i was more referring to that it's a digitalization or sometihng alike of the logo from the tv-show "cheers".

ok after reading some posts from the last roy-controversy, I can see his first reply comming. It will be something like: "I was once a razor-member so that gives me life-time rights to take anything produced by razor before or after my apperance and do whatever I want with it, including making money and/or giving away the copyrights to whoever I want"

looking forward to it.
Dunno if TBL likes gfx used from there demos inside this sac intro:

Gargaj: we don't only want him to remove that shit from dA, we want him to remove any ripped stuff from his site, being the animated gifs and the collages. I'm pretty sure more hasn't been noticed as well.

Ha, back in Amiga days I used rotating font stolen from whom ever can't remember any more. Too bad no one else saw my masterpiece than my mom but sorry guys :(

wat?

Getting him to stop selling a piece of artwork based (partly) on your work, fine. But - please correct me if I'm wrong - now you're asking him to remove a logo that appears on his site alongside the statement that his BBS was affiliated with Razor 1911? If Farbrausch greeted you by showing your logo in their demo (like they did on Rove and Magellan) would you demand that they remove it? Or does this rule only apply to people you don't like?

If Warner Bros demanded that all copies of Second Reality be removed from the internet because of the "ten seconds to transmission" sample (which is ripped from the 1989 Batman movie), we'd all be calling them asshats. What you're asking is about 10 times more asshat-ish than that.

Ever since the Timbaland incident it seems like "spot the copyright infringement" has been some kind of competition on the scene: "ZOMG Black Eyed Peas used a square wave bass line that sounds like a gameboy!!!" It's good that people are looking out for these things, but we need to start asking ourselves "Is this really any worse than what people are doing *on* the scene every day?" before unleashing the hounds.

ringofyre: no...just kiddish. ;-) like the whole thread here.

i dont get all the anger here...where is the drama in it?
let him do his collages and stuff, no one can serious think that he is succesfull in selling any scene related stuff.

and to be honest, we all have bodies dumped in our basement.
the best thing to do is to ignore such things.

TRSi doesnt care.... i dont know why Razor is complaining, but maybe its just because dubmood is involved and if dubmood has nothing to complain there must be something wrong with him :-)

But wait...summerhole is coming! I guess this thread survives at least until october.

still defending your old friend docd?
gasman: I think the main difference is, that Farbrausch usually doesn't aim at earning money on a demo-release in which the greet another group by using their logo. Or that Future Crew wasn't aiming at profit when using the ripped voice-sample.

There's no doubt he'll probably never make any money on his "art" but to me it's the intend to do so, without bothering to drop the author/artist a not asking if it was ok to use it.

Personally, I couldn't care less, if my music got spread all over the internet (as if) as long as it was to entertain people. But if I suddenly found out that it was used commercially without my knowledge or permission, it'd be a completely different story. I have absolutely nothing against commercial stuff and if someone asked me for permission to use my creatings in any way, I'd be honored and permit it right away, but it's the not-asking-just-ripping part I oppose.
