My politics hobby

category: residue [glöplog]
I just wanted to post a message to pouet because I'm so happy. Here in Austria we have a national students parliament as well as local student parliaments at each state-run university. From May 24 to May 26, 2011, there were the elections (they are held every two years), and I was a candidate for the party "Young Liberals" (http://www.julis.at). As I'm studying at two different universities, I was a candidate at both of them. At the Medical University of Vienna, I was the top candidate, and we received 5.09% of the vote. Considering that we participated in the elections at that university for the first time and our precursor party "Liberal Students' Forum" received only 2.2% in 2007, that's a big success. At the Vienna University of Technology, where I was an "ordinary" candidate, we got 5.38%, which is more than twice as much as last time, and due to this good result we even gained a seat in the local students parliament! At the time of writing, the results from some of the other major universities are still being counted, so I do not know how many seats we will have in the national students parliament, but we are certain that it will be at least one.

In Austria the students parliaments are very political, reflecting almost the entire political spectrum of the country, ranging from communists over socialists and greens to liberals, conservatives and nationalists. In the last 2 years the greens and the socialists formed a coalition in the national students representation, while the conservatives were the largest opposition party. We liberals were not inside the national students parliament, but this will change now.

Do any other pouet users engage in political activities in their countries?

you dont get enough attention on your livejournal blog so now you decided to rave your uninteresting non-demoscene life "achievements" here? also, if you wouldn't be so busy with unimportant things such as politics you couldve finished both university degrees by now!

The liberals are the only party that does not tell people what they should do and what they should not, but allows them to lead their lives just as they want.
