MindCandy 3: PC Demos 2003-2010 (includes Blu-ray and DVD)
--------------------------------------------------------------
The 3rd and final installment of the MindCandy trilogy brings 40 of the greatest PC demos of the years 2003-2010 to your (HD)TV on both Blu-ray and DVD. It takes these poetic programs of the computer world to the next level: Each of the demos has been optimized scene by scene or even rewritten just for MindCandy in order to achieve perfectly smooth 60 frames per second in a mind-blowing "better-than-realtime" visual quality. MindCandy 3 will push the limits of your HD hardware with its spectacular audio-visual effects. It's a best-of-the-best look at what imaginative amateur programmers, musicians and graphic artists can do with an off-the-shelf personal computer.

Both discs share the main feature: 40 remastered demos with audio-track, commentary-track (1st hand background stories from many of the demo creators) and subtitles in four languages, running time about 3.5 hours. Next to the brilliant HD video quality (1280x720 in 60 progressive frames per second) the Blu-ray contains almost 7 hours of extra footage, while the included cut-down DVD version serves as a "backup" to allow playback on older systems as well.

Kind regards,
Matthias 'maz' Ziegs

With this third and final installment of the trilogy, MindCandy Volume 3 will push the limit of your Blu-ray player and High Definition television.

Final? Why?

Gargaj: you can't really have four parts in a trilogy, now can you? ;)

I don't have blueray and it's very unlikely now that I'll ever get it :( Probably still order it though for the dvd.

britelite: honestly I didn't know it was meant to be a trilogy in the first place :O

What britelite said. :)

Seriously, it was not meant to be a trilogy, but it will probably end up that way. We don't plan on making any more volumes, especially with all the online video available nowadays (we linked to some on our scene links page). Plus it took us 2, then 4, then 5 years to make the first three.. that trend would only continue, and we'd all be old and gray by volume 5. :)

And having seen volume 1 & 2, this will be another fine scene compendium, congrats on those phoenix.

phoenix: online video has no author commentary :(

What about a Mindcandy 2 NTSC reprint? ;)

Thinking of buying Mindcandy #1 - #3 PAL and shipping to Sweden later :)
For me, online video will never replace the physical thing. Being able to lend it to someone and say "watch this" is irreplaceable, as is sitting on the couch and watching it on the TV. I wouldn't care if it takes another 5 years :)

olivil: We would have to press at least 1000 more.. not sure the demand is there. Maybe Dan can find a place that does smaller runs, but for now, the plan has been to let volumes 1 and 2 run out of stock, then maybe make ISOs (or videos) available in the future.

Gargaj: Unless I ingest massive amounts of hallucinogenics that convince me otherwise, MC3 is the last one. Between Real Life(tm), MindCandy, and MobyGames all last decade, I -- wait for the irony -- completely stopped coding demos and playing games. I'm proud of everything I've done, don't get me wrong, but I want to try to get back to my roots. I have a PCjr demo in me that I need to release; I want to do some more retrocomputing; I want to play some fucking games once in a while; I want to start up a museum; I even have the foolish idea to do a podcast. So MC3 is the last one...

...for me. I'd be willing to help anyone who wanted to make their own professionally replicated Blu-ray, just ask.

Just remember: Rounding up all that commentary is like trying to juggle cats, but with more cats.
