i think it would be better to adapt the form of old-time bbs's in a more "modern" way. my impression after visiting the site a couple of time, is that you want to have an old-time bbs running on a webpage - why not take MORE advantage of the new technologies? (f.x. make a more modern layout or similar).

also i doubt anykind of website will tie the demoscene together - demoscene is what we make of it.
The main idea behind the whole thing is not to be an oldschool bbs but rather to create a sense of nostalgia by mimicing the touch and feel of the old things.

The system itself is in many aspects a modern one. Built from the ground up using PHP it can easily be expanded with new features, and many are planned.

As for "Tie the demoscene together" I do not mean that this is the goal of the system itself. We all always have, and always will, get our inspiration from a multitude of sources. I am just attempting to provide another unique one of those.

Quite a blast from the past, this =)

I do agree with Macaw that utilizing more tech (especially eye-candy) would make a bbs-esque site more appealing, but leave it be for the moment: I'm still soaking up some nostalgia.

aaah.....=)

you're made because you live in finland, allow telnet access and i will be happy :-)
hmm a diskmag engine that would be a browser, and irc client and a napster like in disguise ;)

What sort of tech would you like to see implemented then?

The problem with eye-candy is that most of such features are browser-dependant. I do not wish to require a specific browser (as it is know it works in virtually every browser, although it's optmized for IE)

Wow, you're one of a rare breed then, most people dump us in a non-intuitive flash nightmare =)

Eyecandy could be either nice graphics or stupid java thingies. Only lynx users are missing out either way though.

Melwyn: give me a nubmer, I want my phonebill to soar to the impossible heights of some years ago =)

Graphics I already have... well... sort of. the backgrop atleast (made by KrayZ). It only works in IE though. Netscape doesn't know CSS and Opera bugs.

I don't like Java. It's to heavy on the client's machine. If anything is to be applets then it has to be in the fun-section (for games and such).

More regular graphics incorporated into the interface would be a great thing. The only problem is that it's pretty darn hard to get people to draw you great graphics. Maybe when it's made a bit more of a name for itself.

\wild idea mode{
make your php pages generate xml as well as html ... the xml could be loaded and interpreted by other more scenish clients? (ok the problem is to make people code those clients, why not organize a compo or something?)

same idea could also be done for a site like pouet actually :)
(i could very well imagine a pouet-app that would index the demos in your local collection, permit you to browse the site and merge the two.. (the download links would turn into a 'run' button if you have the prod locally ;)
}

I don't think distributed information using XML is something I want to implement at this stage ;)

About VBoard I can only say this.. I ran elebbs before (http://www.elebbs.com/) and it has an extension called EleWEB which allows you to do just the thing as mentioned in the previous url. You'll have to contact the author to be able to test the EleWEB interface though.

The reason I made my own system is because that's the only way I'd get exactly what I wanted. I just never got that from the BBS software I've used in the past years.

hehe reminds me of those 2400baud days =)
thumbs up, atleast it is not as another guy pointed out another flash nightmare. flash needs to die from the net soon, it blows goat. I mean artisticly its ok, offer some stuff, but for the end user it usually ends up in a , "lets-see-what-this-blue-PIXEL-does" kindda clicking around on the page....boooo!!

but again, nice stuff mate =)
