Hmm... i can't access the phpmyadmin page anymore. It's been a while since i last tried so i was wondering if anything has changed on that lately?

If you just need phpmyadmin - you could try to use Adminer. It's a single file phpmyadmin-clone that should work with zero config.

Sorry to bump, but I emailed scamp last week in the hope that he could help me point my new domain at my untergrund account but it seems he must be very busy, I don't blame him!

My understanding of DNS servers is limited - I know I need to provide my domain service with the two DNS servers (I don't know what they are for untergrund), but surely something needs to be done at the undergrund-side to associate the domain with my account?

Is there anyone else that would be able to help me with this, or do I just need to be patient?

My untergrund account's been neglected for some time and now that I'm less busy these days I wanted to create a proper site, finally :)

Do you want to point your domain foobar.org to foobar.untergrund.net? Or foobar.untergrund.net to foobar.org?

If its the former, it's your/your DNS provider's job to set the DNS entry. Scamp can't do nothing about it.

a) Some DNS registries provide you with an interface and set up a "redirect" to a different url. Actually, they will let the DNS entry point to one of their web servers and let them send a HTTP redirect to the untergrund site.

b) If you want to make the foobar.org point to the foobar.untergrund.net server, however, you can just set the IP to the same IP as of he foobar.untergrund.net server, or probably better, create a CNAME entry for it.

In case a, there is nothing Scamp can or needs to do. In case B, scamp would probably have to configure another virtual host entry so that foobar.org is handled the same like foobar.untergrund.net. The question is whether he actually wants this. foobar.untergrund.net has the advantage of telling the user there is something like untergrund.net, and foobar.org does not.

I want to point foobar.org to foobar.untergrund.net, so the former. :)

What I don't understand is how all the different *.untergrund.net accounts resolve to the same IP address, yet all have different separate websites.

For example, if I ping syphus.untergrund.net, and ping ada.untergrund.net, they both resolve to 89.207.250.70.

Yet if I type http://89.207.250.70 into a browser, I actually get the site also seen at http://zxaaa.untergrund.net/.

How does this work? Is there some kind of internal routing at Untergrund to determine which webspace to serve up based on the request?

My domain provider lets me add a few different kinds of record including A and CNAME. How would I set it up to locate my own webspace properly? I just tried a CNAME for the IP address mentioned above, and as expected my domain now points to the site seen at zxaaa.untergrund.net - I'm assuming this site is the first on the "list" (does this list have a technical name?) or is the default or something.

Yep - when you visit http://foobar.org/blah, your browser sends a request to the server at 89.207.250.70 that includes the header "Host: foobar.org", and the web server uses that information to determine which site to serve up.

If you're seeing the ZXAAA site at your domain, then the DNS is set up correctly at your end, and now you just need to wait for Scamp to make the change to the web server config. (And to answer Joghurt's question: I don't believe Scamp will have any objection to doing that - untergrund has always supported external domains, and indeed that option is covered in the signup form.)

Sorry to bump the thread again, but I have the problem that you can't download stuff from the FTP. Have some paths in the system changed?
It seems my PHP scripts can not access the /pubftp folder in the local file system anymore. Has that been changed?

Aaaand I have a problem with this file ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/rarefluid/1134_CaPaNÑa_-_Black_dove.avi which IS on the FTP, but can not be downloaded, deleted or renamed...

Clicking the link works, but when I put the adress in the browser adress war I get a message: "550 Can't change directory to /users/rarefluid/1134_CaPaNÑa_-_Black_dove.avi: No such file or directory"

What gives?

Some encoding shit obviously, but what?

Oh and I'm using Firefox 12 and FileZilla if that matters.

It's probably to do with the special character in the filename.

Here's a protip: Never use any characters in filenames that aren't a-z, A-Z, 0-9, underscore, dash or period. It saves a lot of trouble.

We're in the year 2012, it shouldn't matter anymore.

It shouldn't, but sadly sometimes it does.

Not to mention it's a pain in the arse having to escape those chars on the commandline.
