Some help needed from the demoscene - MTV graphics

category: offtopic [glöplog]

hi,
I don't want to get TOO offtopic, but I just thought that sceners might be able to help me with this.
So - I have a passion for "MTV" style graphics, and I want to spend part of my life at least making them. I already *went* to University, where they taught me 3D Studio Max, and I figured out that *this* is not where my future lies. No,..... have you seen for example the sequence for "VH1 Block Party" (I don't know whether they're the same around the world as what they show here in India) - THAT's the kind of cool shit that I'm talking about, or the graphics for "World Stage". Where can I learn this stuff, and then where can I work at where I can do THIS type of thing? My Univ. (in the UK) was no help regarding this. What kind of software is used to do this type of thing? Will my experience with Max help me?

The other part of me, is of course interested in demos :), but that's a whole other story.

Thanks a lot guys :)
A link to that sequence, perhaps? :)

links to some of those graphics would be helpful but I'm guessing you should get into TV production for things like that.
Look into After Effects. Great software - love using it.

It sounds like you're describing generic "motion graphics", so do a YouTube/Vimeo-search for that and find what you are looking for. Most likely you'll need to acquire a mixed set of skills that include a 3D package of some kind + After Effects.

they compose that shit with after effects/premiere/eyeon fusion/etc.
visuals are either rendered thus made with a 3d package like 3dsmax or maya.
or they use actual video, so you might need a crashcourse on how to film stuff
some scripting/shader coding might be handy too for trivial stuff.
oh and 2d is just illustrator, photoshop and the likes.

the underlying processes arent THAT much different from making a demo, hence, you cannot rely on 3dsmax alone. you need a toolchain and knowledge of the whole lot if you wanna do it all by yourself ;)

Silly me, should have searched that out to begin with :)
Yeah, you want to get into tv production for this kind of work and go from there.
