10th Annual Scene.org Awards - Public Choice voting

category: general [glöplog]
You can now vote for the Public Choice award at the Scene.org Awards website! For this year, we refined the public voting rules - following is direct quote from our voting guidelines:

Quote:
The purpose of the voting for the Public Choice award is for each member of the public to express his or her personal opinion about what was their personal favorite of the past years demoscene releases.

The Scene.org Awards staff reserves the right (but is not obliged) to discount votes if it finds evidence that such votes are not cast in accordance with this purpose. Examples of behavior that may lead to votes being discounted are:

  • Advertising the award with an implicit suggestion on who to vote for
  • Asking people to disregard their own personal favorites and vote for a different prod (yours)
  • Voting from more than one SceneID account
  • Using any automated means to access the voting interface
  • Recruiting people to create new SceneID accounts with the specific purpose to only vote for your prod

In severe cases, a production may be excluded from consideration in other categories as well. We hope these simple guidelines will make it easier for people to understand what's acceptable behavior and not.

haha, ok, after they choosed to not select my intro for "best 64k" award, they create new "laws" to be sure that I will not get a new award :)

well, next year please don't add any of our prod in any category, so everybody will be happy, ho wait, please delete our two intros for this year, so everybody will let me in peace.

thank you.

reed: I'm not a pussy, I'm letting you win all the awards for your 64k intro since you seems to want all of them by excavating one year old posts from our page :)

@melwyn: it's an official request, remove our two intros from scene.org "public choice" awards list.

why? it's already clear that even if we won the award with your "rules", most of you will always think that we have cheated in some way, so I prefer to not being selected than having people being pissed after me like last year.

I want everybody to be happy, reed with all his awards, the board of ceo@demoscene.com and myself included.

@superplek: it's not reasonable enough from us to avoid any problems by asking to remove our "dirty-voted" prods from the others good one?

I don't really have an opinion :) But perhaps it's best just not to worry about it!

Unfortunately, that's not up to you.

I think you should probably sit down and think a little about why you felt the clarified voting rules hit you as hard as they did. You should probably also let your own words sink in a little bit -- if you feel you don't have a chance to win an award without spamming people in the one category where the public decides.. well, that's food for thought.

may i ask about fairlight? have they used similar "techniques" in past public choice awards?
added on the 2012-04-13 18:36:58 by nystep nystep
Reed troll away as much as you want but dont call rez a pussy.

Gloom: asking the fans on our fanpage to vote for us, just like any group nominated for publics choice award in any competition does, only problem is that we apparently have more fans than the friends of the scene awards staff. BB Image

So how is that spamming, to tell the fans on our facebook to vote for us? It is publics choice right, not -hardcore elite demoscener who only get his news from ojuice rss feed choice-.

Us asking to be removed from a competition in which the only category that we can win is the one that the friends of the nominees don't decide who wins seems completely logic to me. Why don't you remove our two entries from the nominees, then return to watching photos of yourself drinking beer on slengpung and leave us alone?

Never thought I'd say this but I do agree with Dub.

digging shit on other groups so that they drop out of competition should also be a reason for a ban, so i hope flt is also removed from the awards.

@gloom: i am sitting down, being calm and also imagine that i am not so LAME as you think so I can perhaps win this award following the rules.

but please, really please, do not play with me, you absolutely knows that rules was made at first for our intros, because you don't want to see the voting turns like last year.
and i'm not stupid and realistic about this subject, I think it's nearly impossible to decide if some votes are good or not, our "fans" are still real people after all and I don't why they are second-zone people compared to others but well...

SO, i'm asking for my intros to be removed NOT because you think (and wrote here) that I am so lame and afraid to lost the award but because I do not want to be involved in new problems, dramas, pissed people after me, etc...

I am not asking for money, price, glory, I just want to share fun moments with friends, please people with some shiny rotating cubes and chiptune and not being pissed off because we are not respectable enough for a part of the scene.
added on the 2012-04-13 19:06:31 by rez rez
I think people can still decide for themselves after seeing a "vote for me" message.

and I'm terribly sorry to have a so bad written english :D

The thing is, these kind of rules are pretty much normal to have.

Example: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/795/view/hype
Quote:
Manipulation of the hype-meter will result in the reset and disabling of this game's ratings. Examples of manipulation include (but are not limited to): creating multiple accounts in order to drive up the rating, developers encouraging fans to vote the rating to a specific number, and the offering of incentives for fans to vote up the rating (such as in-game rewards).

At the same time, I think the problem is that most groups so far had treated this as unwritten rules, and didn't really promote their prods, assuming that the votes they get are the votes they deserve. But then, maybe Facebook changed the game.

I seriously don't know what the good decision is.
