amiga sd card reader

category: offtopic [glöplog]

i'm looking for recommendations for an amiga sd card reader with write support.
so far i came across the HxC sd floppy emulator, as well as a cf card reader (which i don't want to get).

is anyone using the HxC, or moreover, is there anything different/better than that one?

I'm using HxC with Oric and CPC at the moment and it has worked very well. Nicely multipurpose gadget, if not exactly cheap.

The HxC is not exactly an SD card reader. It reads floppy images from the SD card and the Amiga access the floppy contents. That works well, but may not be what you want.

Other solutions are either pcmcia or scsi based http://a4000t.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_79&products_id=180&zenid=42223fb1ee18ed7c8812edb5aa618975 or IDE http://www.addonics.com/products/adidesd.php. Depends on which Amiga is it ?
The HxC works flawless on my Amiga 500. Very easy.

dalezy:
for the chance that you want to use the SD card reader/writer as a HDD
substitute look here

Dirtie and I are using this thingie in our "travel miggies" and it works nice.
Not entirely flawlessly but nice enough.

Thinking of doing the same. But anyone know if there is any difference using CF instead of SD? Is the CF cards more stable?

dodge - that one seems interesting as well. and it's like 3 times cheaper than the HxC. but if it tends to be jumpy at times, i'd probably go for the HxC indeed - after getting quite many recommendations for it over here and at fb =)

It's not "jumpy" to say. We thougt that from time to time read/write cycles would "fuck up" and trigger a reboot.
Since I changes the blocksize of the partitions to 512 byte using the HD toolbox I didn't encounter this problem anymore.
Then again, I'm not using the Travel-Miggy that often to give a definitive answer to the long-term behavior other than that it is very convenient to be able to "carry" tons of Amiga HDDs in a little box ;)

I use this one with my A1200. It works just great and a FAT formatted card pops up as a hard disk on the dekstop.
