I've been thinking about it some time ago. But, you know... No money, no kids. And I still have to experience life without worrying about kiddos.

http://www.ted.com/talks/ric_elias.html <- Interesting speech indeed.

"In seven days, God made the world; In seven days, I remade mine." - Machado de Assis in Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas.

I really like Lord graga's comment, it's the only one that looks serious and actually insightful and I'm going to add my two cents: I never have been happier than when I got into cycling. It's been more than a year I'm not cycling at all and I've got into beers and alcohol while making depressive tunes and erasing a lot of others, really, get into sport and go outside, get into photography for example, it's a perfect way to GO OUTSIDE. Get into running early AND photography ? Combowin.
Enjoy the fact you can go outside while you still can!

A passion must not become a monomania, you need a lot of hobbies and few passions.

do you mean feeling fucked up or getting pony pics posted in one's emo threads? or both? :)

Danguafer,

a lot of insightful things have been posted on the first page, so I did not really feel the need to add something serious.

You are also asking a question (the meaning of life) that no one can answer. well, some think they can but IMHO it's impossible,
just like truly understanding the universe. Some resort to religion - well, I am not going to go there. let's just say that I find
that all that I know have too many strings attached.

Feeling sad about people growing old and eventually dying is quite normal if you're young, I guess. Just accept it and see it as a
good thing. I for one would not want to live forever, that would be hell.

Life is probably supposed to be a virtually endless cycle of life, death, and changes.
There's so many interesting things to learn. Just look around. Who cares about the meaning, given there even is any except for life itself.

Having gone through quite depressive phases myself, I know the feeling of asking oneself "that's it? might as well put an end to it now"
but trust me: Things eventually get better. It helped me to consider that phase as an experience in itself.

What also helped me was to stop watching TV (did that when I was around your age ten years ago).

And yes, cycling is great (hello knl). Finally picked that up again around a year ago.

Last but not least, IMHO the best thing that gets you through the "shit river", as you called it, is humour.

Now that one thing that truly puzzled me all day is:
Why the heck did I post an image of the anatomy of a horse in this thread ? It felt like such a good idea last night!

Ah well, who cares. Another mystery left unsolved :D

And yeah, as you can see, drinking works well too.

The big secret is everyone feels exactly the same deep down, but we're all doing our best to live without being reminded of how much the odds are against us, individually and as a species. Being a "sane" and "happy" person is basically just ignoring how much of a shit-fest things really are, but its easier said than done, especially when things build up or heartbreak is involved.

Personally, I've come to admire just how fucked up things can get, you couldn't write a story as painful as real-life even if you tried.

This is why I recommend heroin. Heroin has been the number one main-stay for depressives and no-hopers since the dawn of human existence. It's quick, cheap and in plentiful supply too and once you've finished jacking it with the needle, why not jack it with your gerkin for extra satisfaction.

Or, if you're the law abiding type, alcohol can serve as an effective second choice. After all, it's all brain chemistry man.

I dunno, maybe if you just got off your ass and moved away from the computer once in a while and made some friends, threads like this wouldn't exist.

Run.

I'm dead serious : run. For real, not like "I do 2000 meters running and I stop when my face get a bit red". More like "I do 10 km minimum, no matter what". Tropical weather is not an excuse. Run in the evening. Repeat every 2 evenings, again, no matter what. Good shoes is all you need.
- Burn all those cheetos you ate while procrastinating
- Do something that makes you proud, enhance self-image
- Release of mood-enhancing stuffs ('runner's high')

Doing research in comp. sci. day time and tinkering code night time, I've my share of doubts. Running solves it, also solve many others things related to health and aging. Now move that lazy ass and RRRRRUNNNNN.

Yes! Definitely more hardcore than any parkour stuff when you do that into deep paris traffic!
yeah life and death are just normal things... while you are living try to make things that people will remember after your death, so you will be immortal! :)

i hope people will enjoy my intros during the next century when I will be six feet under :D

Gragra hit it on the head - go out and do something/someone.
As garg sarcastically pointed out - avoid the sauce (drinking alcohol) - it's a vicious cycle.

I have found 1 of the best things for beating my depression was to volunteer (I know, sounds really cheezy rite?) but find something you enjoy doing (I'm good at telling people what to do) so I coach my daughter's soccer team.
It keeps me busy - organizing stuff, training & games and gives me a sense of fulfillment.
Sure as fuck beats sitting alone in a dark room feeling sorry for yourself.
Good luck.
