patrick: you may have kinda missed the point. we know that the image material is 'stolen'. we do not care. Naturally we do not do this all the time but sometimes it just happens that we just need a picture of a vintage 30's german tank rolling over a bridge in Poland and we just can't arrange the photoshoot..

now all we need is someone to start bashing me because of my tendency to assault people who rip music;-)

I won't bash you, but I still think for the sake of morality your group should be more concerned about authenticity. There's enough artists out there that you could scout out which could provide an original vintage 30's german tank rolling over a bridge in Poland.

Do you mean that there are people hanging about on deviantart who have access to the actual armor, permits to drive them on roads, capabilities of re-building bridges that were blown up 65 years ago and also contemporary to the time filming equipment and film-developing processes?

i didn't think so.

<dutch-style flamebait>besides, deviantart is just a bunch of whining fat goth pussies</dutch-style flamebait>

my point, if i ever had one to begin with, might have been something like: "photos taken from the internet and used in demos can somewhat be considered similar to audio samples used in music: Everything is fine and dandy and morally acceptable (by most people) just as long as you do not base your whole work (be it a demo, an film or a piece of music) solely on a well-recognized 'stolen'/'sampled' element (audio sample, image, video loop) _and_ that you do not try to gain (significant) financial success solely based on the pieces of material you have no official right to use..."

that probably makes no sense.

I don't think so either, but I know that I could do it within a week with a bit of stock and have the same look as vintage film. If I can do that I bet you can find a lot of deviants who can do the same.
patrick: i don't think that wasn't the point of this discussion.

Everyone and their dog can do good/adequate photomanips.. no need to go fishing further than necessary...

Dips: emulating PPC is not that big of a news. http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/ is one (i don't think you can use it to emulate Amigas tho...)
