Revision 2013 - Damages

category: parties [glöplog]
Lets not become like the rightwing politicians that love to use the ZEROTOLERANCE word on EVERYTHING they dont like. Why not just kill everyone who's caught putting up a sticker, THAT WILL TEACH TEH OTHERS!!!

We all get it now, no more stickers on surfaces in the hall that will give the orgas a hard time to remove.
Lets use all those stickers everywhere else than the party location (Ref.Scamps comment about Bingen).

Please kill this discussion now, and rather bring it up again next year when the party is closing in, to remind people to think HARD and LONG(if that is allowed to say) before putting up a poster or a sticker in or around the party area.

Put your mark ON society....

hardy: good point. And then there is this whole kindergarten-penalty thing which might just lead to the opposite result.

Pixtur: thanks for the link, that's a fascinating article.

nobody said anything about banning stickers/posters/prints/drunkards etc.!
i hope that now everyone is aware of the problem and uses some more reason and quality materials next year.
btw there are plenty of walls in the hall and also in the tunnel which are not painted - no damages to fear if you put your stickers/posters/banners/prints/nude finns there. eg:

maybe this is not the best example either, but you'll get the point:

I also like the whole "putting stickers on peoples clothes" thing.

while being a lover of demoscene stickers, this is in fact fucking annoying - my favourite leather jacket got ruined this way at breakpoint. please be considerate enough not to do it.

unless the prints offer some stuff to enhance the entry itself. you can call that progressive if you like. but you don't have to :-)

Quote:
There are compo rules for a good reason and for the sake of equal opportunities they should be expanded to "works shall only be shown during the compos and not elsewhere until the voting is over".

i don't think i was unrespectful to the compo rules. if so, fashion would have kicked my ass

Quote:

Actually I prefer calling it an "effort to score an competition advantage".

it's all fun and games. and my posters ARE an enhancement. bringing a smile in peoples faces always is an enhancement.
i don't think that it's neccessary for my works to gain a competition advantage. at least not for the last...say... five years.
if you don't like what i do, why didn't you talk to me ? i was around all the time. and all the years.
guess what ? i'll quit doing posters for revision. i've said that before. no problem by me. saves a lot of work. i don't want to offense anybody with my drawings.

Quote:

Pins create a damage. I guess there isn't much need to discuss this.

duct tape is the enemy. no discussion about THAT necessary.

and yes, i apologize again if i created some *serious* damage with pins, which i *still* rather doubt. but if so, i will paint the walls next year if those duct-tape-dudes will help me.

Quote:

Nevertheless ... I did like Forcer's work very much and voted for it.

thx, dude :-) really !

nevermind.
in general everything that's not forbidden seemed to be allowed in the past.
but i second to create some "behavior-rules".
* no stickers on things that don't live.
* no entry-advertisement until voting is done.
that's what i call unmisunderstandable words.

I don't know what everyone has against Prince's posters (apart from the damage that might have been done, but that's apparently not what most people are raving about here). If it violates any rules, organizers would tell him. Other than that, the bigscreen usually never manages to reveal all the details in his artwork, and looking at the big posters to find hidden stuff is always fun (and it might make you appreciate the whole lot of work that must have went into the pictures much more).
Is it OK if I print out Sir's comic strip on a sticker and put it up next Revision, as long as the sticker is top quality? :D

They gave him a seminar slot about it last year, so...

yeah, i'm also a big fan of his posters and spotting all the details and having a nice chat at the walk to the toilet.
and i proposed a solution for the problem i wasn't fully aware either before (because else we could have sorted this out beforehand): tunnel is only painted in the first section or so iirc, so putting up posters at the later sections should be no problem. (see pictures before, haven't found pictures of the later tunnel sections after a quick search)
afterall paintings are meant to be put on a wall, aren't they? that of course holds for every artist. i would actually love to see made's pics printed too, for example. :D

Recommendations for how/where to get stickers printed that are easy to remove again would be helpful. E.g. I haven't heard complaints about Gnumpf or Revision stickers so far and these were like everywhere.

Also, for those posting postes to the wall: is there anything that sticks (= doesn't come down after a few hours) and still doesn't damage walls painted with whitewash (I guess that's what the tunnel walls were painted with)?

For me showing stuff to be shown at compos before the compo but at the same party is perfectly fine. But YMMV about how people will then receive your entry in the actual compos.

Prince's posters were quite awesome, and if it covered up a dirty wall it even added value to that corridor, so damage was done when it was removed from there :)

But yeah, I'm pretty sure the organizers signed plenty of papers to hand over E-Werk as it was before...

@nic0 actually, if you get arrested wandering alone with spray cans in your bags around midnight, they might try their best to make you spit the truth... that's part of the game :)

You don´t really want Scoopex (again) to be packed into a sack together with TRSI and beaten up with a dozen sticks heavily, do you? ;)

knl: the rule is that you never talk to a cop, ever, until you are in court :)

on posters and advertising: I think its perfect to have advertising for ones entry and I think enhances the quality of not the entry in itself, but of the party in general. I like a big fat ass poster showing of a dope effect that will be shown later, or an image in the compos.

I am perfectly capable of judging whether I like an image because it was printed out and I had the chance to talk to an artist about it, or because I actually think it was the best one. I think the Prince and Forcer entry won this year, because it told a story, that my mind could build a before-and-after around, as well as of course being masterfully painted. The first part is something that I have not always felt was present in Princes previous entries (sorry dude, probably just me who are too thick to get it) - so what that in mind, I think it was the right winner - and not because he had printed it out.

The only real message here I can get behind is that TRSI really ought to use vinyl stickers for the classic JOE logo. My messenger bags are made of tarp and get quite a beating over the months, so those paper stickers waste away in two weeks.

Make me pay for quality stickers and cover some costs already!

a good tip for cheap sticker removal is a little bottle of isopropyl alchohol - simply wet said sticker with it and it'll come right off 99% of the time with no damage as it happily eats away at the glue thru the stickers frontside without screwing with paintwork + evaporates quickly...

(^ thought I'd post something helpful) :P

also please don't ban stickers, I'm rather fond of them and it's always nice to get fresh TRSI ones at parties, + yep a vinyl one of JOE's logo would be awesome :-)

Stickers belong on a diskbox like mine beneath ;-)
Also I second D.Fox on that Wall idea. He beat me to it to post it here. At The Party 3 there was a huge wall where you can tag your handle, put on posters or stickers etc.
