Moleman Digipak

category: general [glöplog]
"Add 8$ for shipping outside Hungary."

8$ is quite a lot (especially for eastern Europeans, it's almost half of the package price.)
Maybe some kind of 'no-fee' pickup at the demoparties could be arranged?

... or people could group when ordering? :)
They can group: choose Family pack and get 3 or more (+16$ for every additional copy) and pay for shipping separately after the campaign, for the whole pack. We will find you the cheapest solution. Just read the description of the campaign ;)

If you know a Hungarian scener, who you can ask to bring the copies to a party, where you will show up, ask them, and don't pay the additional shipping cost. Or come to a Hungarian party. Be creative:) I know that $8 is a lot of money, I'm Hungarian:) but these are the fees we have to pay.
FYI:

Are you wondering why are we asking for that lot of money ($28K)?

We’ve asked for the best production prices in Hungary for the digipak. (We will try to find better prices outside Hungary but we used the Hungarian prices for the calculation.)

The best quote for the production of the whole digipak was ~13$ (in case of 1000 copies).

Shipping within Hungary costs 2,4$, which is included for everyone. The platform fee (indiegogo + paypal) is ~10%, plus we have to count with the fee of the currency change to HUF, because paypal only send money in HUF to Hungarian accounts. We added 10% for safety reason, as well, because the HUF exchange rate is always changing and the price of the production depends on the HUF – EURO exchange rate. At the end we set the price for a copy of the digipak to 20$ to be able to finance the production after the platform fees, currency changes and HUF fluctuation. This is the lowest price regarding to the received quotes. Shipping outside Hungary costs +6.1$, so +$8 after the additional fees. It means we need 28$/contributors for a copy of the digipak (most of the contributors will come outside Hungary). We have to order minimum 1000 copies for this reasonable price. This means we need 1000 contributors who claim for the 28$ digipak perk. So we need 28K$ for the whole project. (The production of the digipaks itself will cost only 13K$, but you can see now why we need 28K$ for that.)

Be a co-producer of the Moleman 2 – Demoscene Digipak release and get an IMDb credit!

We started the indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to try to produce an exclusive 4 disk DVD & Blu-Ray release of the demoscene documentary. Not just because we don’t have money to finance such a production, but because we think the best things are born when a community makes it a reality. So the success of the campaign depends on you! Not just because you can contribute to the project, but you can help spread the word, as well, and let people know about the campaign and about the demoscene. Because information is the most important thing. We and all the contributors will be really sad if the campaign fails just because the people don’t know about it. (Of course contributors will be refunded, but it doesn’t change the fact, that they won’t get the perks they claimed.)

We really appreciate your help with spreading the word about the campaign. Therefore we will reward the people who bring new contributors to the campaign. By promoting the digipak’s crowdfunding campaign, you can earn 1 virtual ”Moleman Dollar” for each $20 a friend of yours contributes through your personal referral. The three individuals who have raised the most money in their referrals by the close of the Indiegogo campaign (5th May 2013) will also get a “Co-Producer” credit printed on the cover of the digipak and a “Crowdfunding Producer” credit on IMDb! The one individual who has raised the most money in their referrals will also get the ”Commercial video pack” or ”Commercial data pack” perk depending on their choice.

You can spend your “Moleman Dollars” to get or upgrade to any perk of the Digipak campaign of equivalent monetary value. (Only if this fundraising effort is successful.)

If you have already been referring people, your referrals will count to your total. Closing date is the final day of the Indiegogo campaign for the Digipak on 5th May.

Please note that Moleman Dollars cannot be exchanged for cash.

It’s really easy to be part of the Moleman community and start earning Moleman Dollars:

BB Image

1. Go to the Moleman 2 - Digipak Indiegogo page and login (if you don’t have an account then you will need to register first)

2. After logging in, scroll to below the video and select one of the sharing options (check the picture above) which will have your unique referral code (marked in the photo above) so your referrals can be tracked. It’s important to share that exact link containing your unique code to be able to tracked by the website. Sharing without your code won’t increase your referrals.

3. Get referring and spread the word, share the link on your blog, website, forum, etc. You can track your personal referrals in your Indiegogo profile page under the ”My Impact” tab.

Spreading the word on social sites works better in a creative way. Change up the suggested “help make it happen” wording and use your own words to motivate your friends to click.

Something like this on Twitter:

Music. Art. Program code. Help @Moleman_Film make their exclusive #DVD & #Blu-Ray release: http://igg.me/at/moleman2/x/1262816 #crowdfunding

Use # to highlight keywords.

So, start sharing, be part of the Moleman community and let’s make this digipak a reality!

We are continuously trying to find new possiblities to reach the people. And we really appreciate any help. So if you know someone with a blog, facebook page, twitter, etc, who could share the campaign with many people, ask them to help in the promotion.
We don't have money for commercial tools.

Srry to say so, but more advertising than this (here and on other scene-sites) would take some budget...
...if you´d never had heard about the scene and would see some advertising for it, i guess your brain would decide to move your eyes on to something else (more interesting to you).
So just calculate: 1000 copies are needed to get pressed, so the money per copy goes down to 13$ -> 13.000$ just so you get 1000 copies...ever tried to get rid of 1000 copies of sth in the demoscene lately? With ordering a thousand copies its already hard to calculate i guess, as them all wont get sold on the first day for sure;unless kickstarter has 1000 backupers already, i didnt have a look into that yet.
The Demoscene got a lot smaller in the last decade, there arent them many ppl having the money to buy everything demoscene-related (altho Moleman2 should be in everyones collection for sure!) anymore...i have no clue about numbers of demoscene-interested-people (non-sceners that is) worldwide that would/could buy it tho.

Sorry for that...its just the truth/reality (in my eyes atleast)...but using up some of the budget for advertising is just nonsense!
(Also there are ways to advertise that wont cost a cent, like twitter/facebook/google+/etc nowadays, which could do the job...so maybe this whole post is nonsense aswell ;) )
that my "article" up there was written while lameron posted, so take it as adressed to Canopy.
(Also i am not connected to the Moleman-Crew, i just put my 2cents to Canopys Question)
The only FB-groups, that are worth to be mentioned, i am connected to are these both:
The Demoscene
(1769 members)
C64/Amiga scene
(1586 members)

So, if you havent "advertised" there yet, just drop me some mail, so we can connect you properly at hardyTRSIatGMXdotDE
Thanks hArDy, I sent you an email.

And one more thought. I started this campaign, because I want to know, if people would like to have such a digipak. We don't have any budget, just our free time to promote. We try to reach people outside the scene as well. I don't mind if people don't want to have this digipak, I just try to let them know about this opportunity, and than they can decide.
If there is no claim for 1000 copies than it's ok, but we have to reach as many people as we can, because if they don't know about it, they won't claim anything. And reaching the people without a budget means we need a lot of help. So thanks for everyone who can help with spreading the word. We do it not for ourself, but for the people who wants to have a copy of the digipak.

I'm guessing most of the sceners will have heard about it by now (or never will), so the question really is who else would want to buy it? Figure that out, then maybe you can figure out the best way to reach them.

psonice: exactly! nothing to add here!
maybe...dont take my "article" for too real...i have no clue at all about marketing, i am just some stupid coder of demos! ;)
answered on email.
Well, independent film fans might very well be interested. If you know any, let them know. . .
Only 13 days left! Don't miss your only chance to get a copy of the Moleman 2 - Demoscene Digipak. Support the campaign, choose your perk and spread the word.
Thanks!

The price of the two commercial packs are reduced now to $750!
Put your own video (even commercials for companies) or data files on the disks!

There are only 11 days left, but this could be enough to find 900 new people, who would like to get a copy of the Digipak and would contribute. But for this we need your help. If you know a website, blog, facebook/twitter page which has a huge fan base and where the fans can be interested in such a Digipak, please ask the admins to post a few lines about our campaign. If the campaign won’t reach its goal, we won’t be able to produce the Digipak for you.

We are really grateful for your contributions and support and we hope we can produce the Digipak for you at the end of the campaign.
