Who's coming?

I kinda wish I could, but on that note: is there still no effort to make something happen on the west coast as well?

I wish I could be at PixelJam. : (

re OT Gargaj
Did some venue research and made some exploratory efforts about the West Coast. The sticking point is that local orgas would need to be recruited, as with my efforts in Montréal (which despite lack of announcement of the next party, were not abortive, although we will be moving venues for this next year).
The folks I checked with are all too busy with their dayjobs.

My present focus is making @party the best it can be.
Oh yeah, and Gargaj: The east coast is closer to Europe, even if it is not as different from Europe as the west coast is.
Trixter and IC will both be there and giving presentations for Notacon (see the full presenter list here).

Yes indeed, and we're excited to have Steph and Kevman of Scenesat broadcasting from the party.

first i knew of pixeljam this year was during #revision sofascening.

not posted on demoparty.net (even today). I know pouet != scene and all that, but how else was anybody supposed to know? IC mentioned it on irc, but would he have known about it if he wasn't presenting there?

double OT @metoikos:

while sofascening, some expressed some reservations about @party this year, with the concern being that lecture-halls & party-atmosphere are possibly, well... mutually exclusive.

put another way, i assume there won't be any earplugs at the infodesk

your thoughts? take it to the @party thread if you like.

Anybody know a gallery with Pixeljam 2012 photo's ?

anix: i've been to several demoparties in university(-ish) buildings since the early 90s. lecture halls are really quite practical for compos.

@anix:

I mix all of my events to be listened to without earplugs. This includes @party. So no, we have not and will not provide earplugs at the @party infodesk as they will not be required regardless of venue. If you've got a problem with that then you're welcome to stand with your head right next to one of the main FoH speakers during the compos, the sound level there may be closer to what you're looking for...

@Gargaj, metoikos,
Where at did you probe on the west coast? Part of the issue might be general lack of sceners out this way? (I don't know) I happen to live in Washington state*, I would definitely hit up more parties at least in part if they were closer. I just can't really travel all the time (work [vacation], money ...) so it's more in by best interest to just save up to make it to something like Revision (which I hit this year).

More to the recruiting thing and busy with work, well, party organizing takes a lot (yeah, "duh!", I know ...). If someone was interested in something out my way, I think I would be willing to help out, but I think like everyone else, if asked to be point, it probably wouldn't happen :P

* Seattle isn't all that bad, jokes about "[stick it] where the sun doesn't shine" aside. The Seattle Center is pretty big, and has hotels near by. The Seattle Mini Maker Faire rented the two "northwest rooms" last summer plus they had the entire "patio" area just outside that. It seemed to work okay for a small event, and this year I think they're renting more of the Center, so there's room to expand. There's also a nice hackerspace about 15 minutes drive from the Center, too, that takes walk-ins.
so there's at least like 5-6 active sceners in WA and still no party?

seattle calls for a grungedemo!

Gargaj, I guess so :(

Those out here could try for some sort of meetup perhaps. Though it's not as easy for me, I'm on the other side of the Mountains from Seattle, but travel out there anyway. The trip is worth teh destination if I have somewhere great to be. I mainly there for that "nice hackerspace" (that's where I did all the key fobs that I took to Revision).
You need more than 5 or 6 to make a party. And at least one of the group has to be certifiable person who can convince others to join them in their insanity. ( :

Kudos to all the folks who make PixelJam!
start with a pubmeet. even enschede pulls that one off. i can recommend the gambas

The gambas are reason enough, so what exactly is stopping you? (:
