Open sourcing pouet.net ?

Hm, I really hoped for something with Nazis :(

Analogue do tell me how a single guy deciding on which pull requests to incorporate into the code is not being dependent on that one person... From what I can see you basically want to sit on top of every change to be made, which will slow development down further by requiring lengthy explanations for each change, not to mention the possibility of you going awol again and thus the "official" branch failing to update anymore.
Gargaj's proposed course on the other hand would keep the existing model of cooperation between parties with access, the only thing that would change is that the base code would be rewritten from scratch. Noone is saying anything about taking ownership, and I have no idea where you got that from but seems to me you're clearly (or deliberately) misunderstanding Gargaj's words.

p01: That's exactly my goal, I cleaned up the credentials mess yesterday, I want the code to be on a neutral repo, with a bunch of maintainers (Gargaj included) that will work on it.

Daily deployement and stuff.

Right now it's FTP with not history.

I'm just waiting for people to calm down to put the code somewhere and give admin rights.

BoyC: I did not ever plan to be the sole with push access to the repo, Gargaj and selected others will do too.

Worst Op ever.

I know. I had access to the ftp.

I still don't see how Pouet was/is open as you said.

D.Fox: open source has it's challenges, but one thing is for certain: it's a lot harder for anyone from the community to contribute to a project that is closed source.

Love how the people who won't contribute anyway, demand it to be open - because you know, SOMEONE will fix it.

Also analogue you lost my respect for banning someone who did you fucking work for eight months without any reason, apart from disagreeing with you. Fuck you!

Analogue: see that's something that wasn't clear at all from your previous statements.

I pointed this out back on page 4:

Personally, though, I really don't give two expletives whether or not the next version is open source. I write code, but that doesn't mean I have interest in adding any to Pouet (no offense, really). There are going to be a lot of people like that and a chunk of people clamoring for it in this thread probably wouldn't bother either. So what does open sourcing 2.x buy the authors?

I think it's still relevant, and that being "closed" doesn't mean one person owns it, or has to, either.
Sorry if this was not clear, but OSS for me means a public repo with a bunch of trusted people allowed to merge.

It was implicit.

And Gargaj by declining to give up 2.0 will prevent this to happen. That's my main issue with 2.0.

...until we disagree, I guess.

mog: work? more like he raped his first born for 4 years (not 8. he's not THAT brutal) and then raised an evil cyborg in secret planning to kill the poor raped baby before the cyborg could kill the community once and for all.

Analogue: still I can't shake the feeling that even so in the event of a dispute the last word would need to be yours. Just look at this thread. That doesn't strike me as a too opensource compatible attitude.

psenough: sure open sourcing is not the worst idea. But before doing that you need something documented and working.

You don't really expect people just contributing to an open source pouet without a roadmap, a good repository manager who actually has time to review code and - since we're talking about a very much frequented page - some kind of automated testing before thinking "daily deployment".

The "we'll open source it and it will flourish and develop by itself" approach is quite flawed without a good plan to which all core developers (yes there is need for core developers) to agree upon and enforce it.

Did I ever blocked any dev on pouet ? It's the only time today because I don't agree with Gargaj "owning" the code alone.

BoyC: When did Gargaj say "ok lets continue working with the current code base until we have been able to finalize 2.0" ? I can only find: "BUHU EVIL ANALOGUE I WANT TO DEPLOY MY PROPRIETARY CODE ONCE I FEEL LIKE IT YOU SHOULDNT COME HERE AND THINK YOU ARE! BUHU" (then a chorus with some other think-about-the-children-pretentious-people you included)

Why not just use the best code that work and have it OSS (if thats what analogue wants). Who gave any of the right to criticize the idea of OSS the current code base?

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't see how making the code public is any good without the database being available to run modified code against. Am I missing something?

Didn't matter whether you did or not, the action today was rather petty. You could have tried to resolve it less brashly.
You surely missed the part where we spoke about the magical BugfixFairies, if we build - they'll come.
