pouet 2.0 migration: aug 14

category: general [glöplog]
gargaj: what I'm saying is that the logical decending order makes less sense than sticking the most important part first in a string of data. Aka - the data you need first is right there: first.

tomohiro: yes, but if you count all the times you need to know a date, I'm more than fairly certain that you'll find that the dates you need are not far from now.

I'm used to being massively dissed for this opinion, but that doesn't discourage me at all. :) As said: in any system-setup where a computer is involved, yes, it makes more sense with YYYYMMDD, but where humans interact on a day-to-day basis, my opinion is that DDMMYYYY. Like, if I ask someone if they want to go to the movies, their logical response is not to ask "This year?".

..and as an apropos: YYYYDDMM makes NO SENSE what so ever. :)

...except literally noone uses Y-D-M (meaning if the year is first, month is always next), whereas the world is split between DMY and MDY - have fun figuring out 01/02/2013.

@gloom: When asking about movies, the date is not unimportant, it's insinuated.

... the year ...

@gloom Food for though, no arguing which is best. YYYYMMDD is the standard in China. Chinese tend to throw the big picture first and the details later when forming sentence, speeches, etc. and dates. "it makes more sense" tends to be higly culture-specific ^^

I like the fact that this is relevant to the topic.

oh, so this thread turned into a debate about ordering of time...
...gloom is right about the computer-approach, but i guess everyone agrees there anyway!
...gargaj is right about everything he said (as always!)
...except that YDM is used in the USA, so there are quite a lot of ppl using that really stupid scheme!
In Germany it is DD.MM.YYYY, i got used to it and never thought i´d argue about it at any point of time, but i did so some weeks ago (out of this thread obviously), we argued for like 2-3 hours, consense was what gargaj said:
It´s just a personal preference...and as ONE WORLD won´t happen in our Lifetime, we´ll keep the deciphering of what is meant with 2001/11/09 f.e. ;)
anyway: Gloom lost for once \o/
YDM in USA is obviously MDY, sorry about that!
On that matter, nobody stated a year for the update of Pouet :)

Hmm.. you're all arguing about the order, but ignoring how utterly fucked up dates are? :D

Years: start at 0 and increment. Except if you need a year before 0, then it increments backwards, and you have to add a suffix so people know whether it's positive or negative.

Months: in base 12, to complement years which are in base 10. In fact, no, let's forget the numbers, we'll give them names. Let's base the names on supernatural deities people haven't believed in for over a thousand years.

Days: let's have the week in base 7 and add more crazy names. But hey, this isn't much fun, so lets make the number of days in a month be pretty much randomly either 30 or 31. Then let's make just the one month have 28 days, except some years, then it can have 29.

Hours: back to base 12, but we'll have 24 hours in a day instead of the expected 12.

Minutes and seconds: base 60, for convenience.

All of this is going to take around a year out of every kid's life, just so they know the time and date and can make it to the cinema at all, and you're worried about the order the numbers are in :D

Base 12 and one-based. Also not only ancient deities but also Roman emperors (July, August) and hey, because we added those two in the middle, the later monts named after numbers (7ember, 8ober, 9ember, 10ember) are wrong now but who cares! :)

ehrmm, what? (say what again, i dare you!)
why the fucking fuck should a day have just 12 hours? just so one day is night and the next one is day, so the next day can be day again and the next-next night?
you see? ill-ogical ! just like my sentences!

ok, after thinking about it, that wasn´t your point at all anyway ;)
kb: preview button has been there for ages ;)

wait, ring-of-eier (nuts, cochones, balls, we need more eier!) has pouet v2.0 already, fucking future-sceners! not even the admins have it yet, except garg who doesnt use it yet but has coded it! ;)
fuckings to auzzies posting redheaded ozzy-politicians aott !
the funny thing is:
everyone is eagerly waiting for the 14th of august of 2013...
...while pouet v2.0 wont be any different to the yet-known pouet at all! except some Unicode-stuff!
But Thread si le funny aswell! :D

Garg: any info about loading-times? loading pouet is under 1 second normally, no matter what time...mostly under 0.1~ seconds....will that change to the bad?
If y'all want absoluteness, time should be counted in Planck units from the Big Bang.

wanna know what?
our alls time is measured by atomic-clocks, which are just
this
Please just print the unix timestamp.
added on the 2013-08-13 16:24:31 by Rob Rob
this thread ain´t ´bout timestamps!

*undIchSpritzAlsObIchMüssteIhrMeinSpermaAufDieBrüste*
well, look. The pouet migration happens on the 14th. We can't agree on whether that's the day, month, year, or unix time stamp, and we don't know what base the number is in. So the migration can't happen until we're all agreed on the unix timestamp as the universal date format.

Then we just need to know what the 14th unix timestamp is.
