This is a thread that deserves to be bumped up.

BUMP!

Love,

If you want to stay in the Hotel Crystal, you need to get a move on, it is filling up.
What hotel is the closest one? last time I was at mercur and it was a. "trip" :)

Victor's Residenz is expensive but also a walking distance away. It's proven that one can walk the distance safely to the hotel even when stoned and drunk on Salmiakki and that deadly Canadian maple whiskey.

OT: Deadly? I dunno, Salmiak is pretty deadly : D
(Especially combined with Żubrówka, yum)
Might also be related to the consumed amounts. I seem to remember certain someone helping themselves to my Salmiakki so I had to binge on the maple thing ;)

Helping themselves to? I thought you shared it of your own free will! Only that can account for us splitting the bottle ( ;

(And this is how höperö learns not to go drink for drink with an experienced Finn)

So I guess it was disgusting stuff, eh? That would account for Ms. Knopf adoring the kishkes out of it ( ;
I'll have to remember not to bring two bottles of it this year, eh?

: D
Hm, and I do recall Ms. Nonplussed being utterly plussed by it at Evoke as well hee hee
IIRC we split more than one bottle but it might be my hazy memory making things up :D

Anyway, rest assured that the hotel is not far away ;)

P.S. Please do bring two. At least. Anyone reading this should get to taste the delicious maple thing :) Ms. Nonplussed would probably like some as well :D

Should import regulations allow, I'd go for even more. I had a taste at Evoke this year, and I have to agree: That stuff's amazing! The more the better :)

Oooh, and that belgian waffle-stuff - I really hope someone brings the belgian waffle stuff, too!

:D Noted!

On the Wafel, I hear the store is out, but Franky can correct me if not.
I heard from a certain Hungarian that it is obtainable in Hungary as well now . . .
i've ordered 5 boxes of waffle at the waffle-store.
checking on saturday if they have arrived or not

I did the Residenz place this year it was within walking distance, but up a hill. :P I walked down in the mornings*, and a few times up it during the party weekend, but mostly used the bus in the evenings for that. I didn't do the Crystal because their site was totally broken and I couldn't get anything worth beans in English. Like how to book. Looks like they fixed their site last time I checked but if what Metoikos said is true, I need to get a move on my plans or hope the Residenz is still decent.

* Though one morning I did catch a taxi with someone heading to the party hall and I don't recall that being terribly expensive. Realistically what's the point of getting a close-by hotel and then paying a taxi to drive around the river to a bridge, then down to the hall? Exercise is not killer. :)

On the alcohol, someone ("gorauma") had some "Naga Shot" stuff and their own homemade Salmiakki liquor they had people try at the Nectarine table. Oy. I think I'll stick to the local beer. One of the ones offered at the party hall sharing a name with some signage on the exterior of E-Werk was pretty good, but then again, I'm not a beer connoisseur by any means.
1. Hotels
Booking.com is much more functional than the Crystal website and how I booked my room. Hotel website has English option, but I don't need it for that basic stuff, and if I don't know a word there's Google Translate.

2. Beer
Opinions on German beer I have. But bias much I have also. (;
(my halftaught taste goes to Belgian; American & Mexican hopped-to-death-or-watery is worse, yes, but . . .)

Well, at least you didn't link to Virt's song "Waffles". It's not terribly pleasant.

You guys are talking food, and all I have are key fobs. They're not very edible. :(

I think I figured last time most stuff wouldn't work if I tried to do it through Google translate, but I guess you mean just throwing words at it. I hadn't thought of doing something like booking.com, though something like it was probably what handled my Residenz arrangement.

Hey, we have good beer. Just not the kind that comes in cans and sold in large quantities nationally.

Personally, there's a nice pear cider made out of Olympia, WA, that I really like. Not a beer, but I'd probably be likely to drink more of it than a beer.

me tired of cider. blame woodchuck and kopaberg. no more juice for beerbear.

G-translate can handle some modern European languages ok. For the rest, Michel Thomas Method or book/CD cramschool fun. But don't do what I do and learn sloppy bits of a bunch, pick one.
