help out a noob

category: general [glöplog]

i've downloaded a few "musicdisks" from pouet.net and scene.org, but i can't seem to figure out how to play the music. sometimes the packs contain an exe file (which won't run) or sometimes they contain a file with no extension at all... help me out?

What about sharing the true nature of your computer's configuration and the name of these musicdisks with the people hanging around ?

right. i'm running win98, SB Live! soundcard umm...
as for the musicdiscs i got (from pub/music/disks/ on scene.org ftp) the archive names were:
apt-dc29.lha
ops-bps1.lha
ops-bps1.lha
which are titled "Digital Chips #29", "Beeps Issue #1", and "Beeps Issue #2" respectfully.
if i need to include any other system config info just say so (i'm not really sure what to include)

Just guessing from the .lha extension that these are Amiga musicdisks. You'll need either an emulator or the real thing.

.lha-s are bad for you. download zip-s instead.

you could always ask your dad or anyone else in his 40-50s to get the amiga back out the basement.

I AIN'T THAT OLD DAMMIT

Anyway. Yes, they would probably be Amiga files. If you're lucky, they contain mod files, which can be played back with various mistakes by xmplay or winamp. To properly hear them, you'll need the Oldsk0ol player by SurfSmurf, or Deliplayer. I personally don't like Deliplayer PC, so I reccomend the Oldsk0ol player. I've written this a few dozen times on the Nectarine forums, and this probably fits more in there, so if you're serious, try popping over there.
just link the dude to the b2r how to setup winuae tutorial :)

foobar2000 also has a very good and accurate .mod replayer, best one available for pc imo.

Well.. foobar uses Bass. Pretty good -in a generic way. The stuff Truck recommends is spot-on.

ty very much everyone. i hope i can get it working now.
and "fake user"? what is this?
added on the 2004-12-16 22:24:43 by dephrak dephrak
dephrak: Fake-users are users who register with unreal email-addresses like hotmail-, yahoo-, lycos-acounts and stuff. ;)
Having 0 glöps and a "strange" question let's users assume the same. ;)

For the musicdisks: When extracting "mod.something" don't forget to rename it to "something.mod" or "mod.something.mod" because some players (Winamp) don't notice the file type without the extension...
I like bananas and apfel struddel
