i actually dont see any harm in writing down established unwritten rules. for example the ones that leija stated. they should be common sense but since nerds tend to have a high autism level it might be a good thing to do. they would also serve as a guideline for new people.

plot twist:
Quote:
In a society in which there is no law, and in theory no compulsion, the only arbiter of behaviour is public opinion. But public opinion, because of the tremendous urge to conformity in gregarious animals, is less tolerant than any system of law. When human beings are governed by "thou shalt not," the individual can practice a certain amount of eccentricity; when they are supposedly governed by "love" or "reason," he is under continuous pressure to make him behave exactly the same way as everyone else. <George Orwell>

Ragnarok: Regarding social issues... High autism level is probably a better thing than high alcohol concentration level. ;)

There's no need to break the law to be an asshole, for me it works to break social rules and taboos, enoug to make people upset and have fun from that. And yes, i'd rather shout "ausmachen! langweilig!" If a release is crap to me, a well as others can feel/felt the same to do with my releases. It is not the gay-hugging-scene, competion has both, the good and the crap entries. Time to get back to good old habits like fuckings in demos. No go all and see your lawyer to sue me for being a dick.
Brother Groepaz speaketh the whizdom. The more laws, the better. But luckily, even without laws, nowadays we have public opinion in precise mathematical control! Socially incapable geeks get to define that as well. Count the number of Likes or Thumb-ups or Votes or Smileys. Good, bad, it's countable. Objective truth. Anyway it goes, laws or no laws, geeks rule! Win-win situation.

Beware the THUMB DOWN! Thou shall seek the face of Popularity! And thou shall not SELF VOTE or MASTURBATE or else the POLICE (who drives with the blue car uaaaah) will give you the THUMB DOWN and you will get HEARING LOSS! Beware the THUMB DOWN! Ugh.

Who?
The op?

Gargaj wins :)
But yeah, I guess leija's and arcane's statements on page7 could somehow flow into a finished result.

I think we're done.

People booing during compos hurts me everytime, no matter whose prod it is or how bad it may be (none of them were ever bad enough for me to think that it could even be justified). Another dark episode was people booing at Drifters for winning the Amiga compo at Breakpoint 2008 - if you think about it, they booed about their own votes, but that's not as bad as booing at actual living real human beings on the stage...
Lemme tell you something ... people can be mean. Life sucks.

Sure isn't the most pleasant thing in the universe, but something you'd have to expect that people might disagree in a certain fashion when you display something publically.

"applause is ok, booing is not" makes no sense to me at all. either you want feedback, or you dont. if all you are after is "likes" - put your stuff on facialbook.

My positive statement of the day is:

Peeps I've met at demo-parties generally behave like awesome human beings especially when compared to the sort of behavior I've seen at non-scene things.

Just felt it needed to be said - also, hugs.

i kinda stopped booing during demos because i thought everyone deserves respect. HOWEVER during this year i was kinda fed up with the fact that people would cheer even for the crappiest crap. To a point were I just grabbed the megaphone and shouted what i felt. And i agree - if you are allowed to cheer during a demo you also must be allowed to boo. and to be honest - i really do not want to see effects from the 90s over and over and over again. or the same design choice of pumping music and slow moving scenery. i could fucking tell what was going on on the bigscreen when i was standing outside having a beer. i remember neuralnet going inside to check. was he came back he was like :"for fucks sake, he's right."

Thumb-downs should be banned, because some people take them seriously. I'm sure many thumb-down receivers have got sad.

One reason I am here is honest feedback. It can be very frustrating when everything around you is thumbed up, even though you can clearly recognize it as crap.

Ne7 is certainly right here. The only bad atmosphere I can recall personally from visiting demoparties was the one at MS2k2, which fortunately appeared to be a one-off.

I've never noticed any problems at Outline, Sundown and even at larger parties such as Revision, whilst people at said parties can be drunk, there is a difference between behaviour seen at non-scene events and what we see at parties.

I would echo Dossi's post about some scener parents allegedly setting up their children's potty in the main hall. He / She is right, this kind of situation is quite awkward. While I'm not a parent myself personally, I do think, to be fair to the kids themselves, this sort of thing should be carried out in private, even if it was within the toilet tunnel enclaves or similar, providing they were not being used for something else (at least, this could happen at Revision). Mind you, with some kids, when they need to go, they've got to go - and that can happen wherever you are ....

How about banning all feelings and restricting "the scene" to generic, OSDM crap made out of boredom? That way everyone wins.

Anyways, I'm out - I guess enough constructive has been said already so now it comes down to turn it into some form shape that can be applied to the real world (whatever that might be for the demoscene - maybe an OSDM demo shown before every compo or a disclaimer on pouet? :D)

Just out of interest ... was there ever a party dissolved by the cops/due to medical emergencies? Some parts of this thread sure sound like this is very imminent.

There are also things like basic human decency, and booing at someone is certainly not "decent". If I don't like something, I simply don't cheer. And maybe give the author some personal feedback. No need to be insulting towards them, and booing most certainly is an insult.
cheering to those crap entries ragna mentioned is equally insulting (perhaps not to the author). and infact, some of the authors should be happy booing is all they got for this shit.
