pouet.net feature request

category: general [glöplog]
Would it be possible to make the random function more selective?
So you can make it pick productions in 1 category.
Eg. musicdisks, 64k intros, Windows productions...

Just a thought, thanks :)

Oh and while on the subject...
Even on this faster server, the top10 page doesn't work :(
I would like to bring my idea of pre-generating the top10 page and showing the cached copy back to your attention :)
That way it won't time-out on the browser, so we can actually SEE the page :)

Thanks again

Scali: Obviously you read my thoughts, I was just today going to post about that selective random feature, which would be really nice.

DiamonDie: You didn't have to post that, I knew you were thinking this already :)

w VERY important feature would be post-editing of prods one have added... so everyone can edit his add if he did a mistake or smth. i think that's what pouet needs most urgent.

I want timestamps for the oneliners :)

even though post-editing would be highly appreciated, there's an access rights problem. if you are an author of a production added by someone else, how would pouet determine that you can be allowed to modify the prod? from group affiliation? but pouet doesn't maintain that type of information. so only the original poster should have the rights to modify? that's not very good either.
A more distinctive ordering process for platforms and categories would be great. The results for a demoparty are still kind of messed up (i.e. amiga/c64/pc/etc mixed in the same category sorted by rank, not compo)

And an Xbox category ofcourse, since we all want to have a plabel for our .avi files ;)

a post-preview feature could be really usefull too, especially for that BB code baby we all love.

top10 should view only one category at a time. that should speed it up i guess.

top10 should be cached, that should speed it up... (also makes me wonder whether somebody has forgotten to add an SQL index or something -- sorting a couple thousand records shouldn't be THAT hard, should it? I'd take it the system is already smart enough to store the number of thumbs up/thumbs down in a field per production or something :-) )

Another great feature would be complimentary beverages.
the bug with adding stuff with the release date set in future (aka 'the favorite dxm exploit') should be fixed too 8)

bhead: I've send a mail to analouge already... :)

btw. here's a faster top10 for you guys... i did it already week ago but haven't got any kind of reaction from analogue yet so i decided to leak it out. :)

it simply caches the old top10 lists so it's 99% of the time really fast to load, but then if you're the unlucky one ending up loading new data it's as slow as it used to be before. anyways top10 lists aren't changing that rapidly that it would be sensible to load them from the database every time...

melw: nice idea. Too bad analouge doesn't seem to react on ANY mail he gets. :/

melw: very cool idea - the only problem is, that the (local) links dont work...

if you could tweak the 'background', 'src' and 'href' attributes accordingly in the php-script before saving the page, it would be super-cool. I think it should be enough to insert "http://www.pouet.net/" everywhere...

hmm anyway seems a bit more complex 'cos the links in the "the pouët.net top 10 list"-tables should remain as they are...
added on the 2002-07-03 17:39:24 by Spin Spin
spin, well i made this for analogue so he can replace the current top10 page with it if he wants to do so. when copied to the original directory all the links should work normally since i didn't touch them.
added on the 2002-07-03 22:14:04 by melw melw
melw, oh ok. I just thought you wanted to really put this in the public as a workaround as analogue doesnt seem very involved in pouet at the moment...
added on the 2002-07-04 10:44:20 by Spin Spin
let the poor man analogue eat =)

What about an "oneliner-view" in addition to the "demoblog-view" in user.php?
near to each retrieved oneline there could also be a link to the relative oneliner page.
