a demoparty in New York City: synchroNY

category: parties [glöplog]
Yes, sorry, I realized a moment about that I misread your question.

The system is "mint" unless there is has been documented, released demo for that platform shown at a demoparty.
how to submit entry?

Either at the party or using the site, if it's a remote entry. The party is almost four months away right now, so we just have the basic information up there now. We'll have complete rules, a way to submit, and a full schedule with speakers and performers up before way too long ... but it will be a few weeks.
Oh a 256b compo. That is something I should keep in mind for the next months ^^
wishfully paging Digimind as well . . . met him this weekend, told him about the party. His nano prod was SICK.
We've added several more new speakers!

Akira/Genesis*Project - A demoscener who has worked with Desire and Moods Plateau
Chipzel - Niamh Houston, a London based independent chip-musician
Luis Blackaller - A new media artist and educator, animator and designer who studied at the Media Lab who will be talking about VR
Raquel Meyers - An innovative ANSI artist

more to come . . .

So there cannot be two demos of the same platform at the party because by the time the second one is shown, the system isn't mint anymore? :)

@Gargaj:

It's a good incentive in ensuring that entries are not submitted only a few minutes before/after deadline!

time to torch the pouet servers!
Hum, just 400EUR for a trip. I don't have it laying around but it isn't that much.

I think two entries for the same previously un-demoized system would probably be allowed. This is of course, a question for LUIS, head of compos.
yes I made up a word what
Is the mint compo only about hardware or any kind of "mint demo invention"? How about interesting usage of existing hardware, operating systems, programming languages or software/libraries inside operating systems?

For example can COBOL programming language demo be counted as mint demo? COBOL is not mint demo programming language so this was just an example. Hodor language demo might still be mint. :-)

re: compos
We're still ironing out the full details and should be posting a page about it sometime this month.

The plan to was to have MINT as a special/notable category in addition to the usual compos. I think languages, even a cool one such as COBOL, should not count if the target compiled platform is a PC. Languages or software libraries are just tools. Don't let that stop you. We would love to see a demo written in LOLCAT for our other categories.

Operating systems can be included into MINT as well. example: C64 demo written for the GEOS (8-bit operating system) , NeXTSTEP or Contiki OS (not sure if they exist already. probably not)

its still MINT If someone releases demo about it a month before the party.

brainstorming on platform. leaning towards hardware that can or could have been purchased and has some type of turing complete programming options for it. so a custom wired AVR demo wouldnt count.

Here are some platforms that need demos written for them:

I'm personally working on a demo for this category.
SGI Onyx, I like that :)

Remember, by tradition, Altair code has to be hand-assembled on paper in the airplane on the way to the presentation ;) .

Just rig up a video card and a sound card first, and you'll be good to go :)

Real hardware only. Just put up a YouTube capture :)

Need I say more?

(:

p.s. if you send an oscilloscope demo for a different compo, not Mint--someone who will probably be at the party has my pretty old tube scope, which he has lovingly repaired.
