Which Amiga OS for 'new' demos?

category: general [glöplog]

Hi there,
I was just wondering which was the best way to run newish Amiga demos/intros. Should I install a plain OS3.1 or the latest OS3.9? Is AHI necessary? What to include in the startup-sequence?

I know there can be no single best answer but some suggestions would be cool!

Winuae - then you get all the configurations you could possibly need.
3.9 gives basically no enhancements for demos over 3.5 - and 3.5 doesn't really give any system enhancements for demos either (: I have run 3.5 and 3.9 and I prefer 3.9, but that's cuz I have used it for tcp/ip over installing odd things under 3.5 like Miami.

But for demos, 3.1 should be fine. For actual use, 3.5 or 3.9.
But 3.9 should be fine for demos as well, shouldn't it?

Oh yes.
It's 3.1 with userland enhancements, no new kernel thing.

You may have some issues running 1.2 and 1.3 only demos, but, well, ya know. You'd have that with 2.0 and 3.1 anyway (:
Thanks SGT, that's what I thought. I just wanted to be sure because I have problems running Heartcore from Iris.

Any hints regarding the startup-sequence?

I'd say ask the iris guys (: They're on #amigascne sometimes...

I still need to get a real Amiga here. Working on it.
Shane: you still need to install an OS for UAE. (The fact that you can install multiple is true however.)

About AHI: Not necessary but some demos/intros tend to use it - Gift, for example.

i tried installing ahi on uae the other day.. but then running the prefs it asked for mui.. which then asked for lha. which then made me give up and download the video version of the demo i intended to watch instead. i suck.

I was never impressed with ahi's installer thingie, but I have been happier with the sound I got out of it. Someday when I have an Amiga set up again I may work on it. May.
