Nordlicht 2018 - 20th - 22th July - Bremen, Germany

category: parties [glöplog]
Hello fellow friends of the old- and newschool!

This year Nordlicht will be held again at the same location as the previous years (Lichthaus Bremen).

We just launched the ticket sales, also make sure to register if you plan to visit.
The events/DJs and comporules are not final yet, expect more of that to come as we move closer towards the party.

New and noteworthy:

- by popular demand we will host a dedicated tinysize compo in the flavor of a 512 byte hard limit, all platforms allowed (watch the upcoming compo rules for details).

- due to increased venue-costs we had to bump up the ticket-price by 5 bucks to make 40, but if you are fast and get an early bird ticket you will still pay the old price of 35 Euros. This offer is valid until may 15th.

See you at the party! :)

so these are the comporules we came up with for the tinysize, if there are no serious objections or fuckups we will put them down as follows:
Code:512 byte tinysize compo * All platforms allowed * The entries must consist of a single file with a hard limit of 512b (2 Blocks on the C64). No whining because your Atari OS has a bigger fileheader or other means of wasting bytes. * Please check our hardware section if we can show your entry "out of the box", also you are free to supply: - The hardware itself (please contact us beforehand so we can make sure to be able to connect it properly). - An (hopefully preconfigured) emulator. If your production runs on standard DosBox (0.74) you can also just pack the .config file. - A videocapture of the hardware running your production (binary must be included). * If 512 bytes are not your shoesize but you are into even smaller footprints instead, this is still the right compo for you. We will make sure to display the size of every entry on the beamslide.

sorry if your browser shows a vertical scrollbar, maybe the code tag wasnt the smartest idea right there...

Hey there! It's a bit disheartening to see that there is such little feedback from people on here regarding Nordlicht 2018 so far (as was the case in the previous year, too!). Clearly this is not due to a lack of popularity of the party itself, since it is usually very well visited and sees many compo submissions. Maybe it's just because of the awesome weather we had in the past few days so that nobody is around to post. Or maybe the majority of Nordlicht visitors does not frequent Pouet very often. We probably will never know ...

In any case, some valuable feedback regarding the new 512 Byte Compo has been provided, and we're excited to present you the finalized rules:

  • All platforms allowed
  • Your entry must consist of a single file with a hard limit of 512 bytes
  • Please check our hardware section if we can show your entry “out of the box”

  • You are free to supply:
  • 1. The hardware itself (please contact us beforehand so we can ensure it can be connected properly)
  • 2. A hopefully preconf’d emulator. If your prod runs on standard DosBox 0.74 just pack the .config file
  • 3. A video capture of the hardware running your production (binary must be included)

  • If 512 bytes are not your shoesize but you are into even smaller footprints instead, this is still the right compo for you. We will make sure to display the size of every entry on the beamslide

So basically 'forget about the 2 blocks thingy mentioned previously', the 512b hard limit applies to all!

As with all compos except for Gravedigger, we will gladly accept remote entries too! However, if we end up with too many entries, preselection will be applied in favor of locally submitted entries at the party place.

I'm interested as always, but this time I'm not sure if I can come, since I expect a visit from abroad. As soon as i know more and I can come, I'll get the ticket :)

Tomorrow is your last chance to obtain a price reduced ticket that includes all of the party and food features.

What's new? As a follow up to last year's seminar "An Atari 2600 VCS Demo in just a few hours", SvOlli will give a short presentation of the book "Making Games for the Atari 2600" by Steven Hugg.

In the upcoming weeks, we'll update the party schedule and announce this year's music live acts etc. so hang in there!

Seems like I set the cut off timer for the early squirrel tickets on deinetickets.de incorrectly, I'll get that fixed asap when I get home tonight. Sorry for the confusion!

To make up for it, we'll extend the reduced price ticket by one day, effectively ending it tomorrow on the 16th instead of today.

Thanks havoc for pointing this out to me! :)

The No.2 error in the ticket order form seems to occur only in some Firefox installations, it has been reported to work fine with Chrome so you might want to try it instead if you're having issues. It sounds like a bug that deinetickets.de staff would need to look into :)

Is anyone from the south passing by Stuttgart and has a free seat or two in their car?
I'm the only named contest of the shader showdown so far. Please someone else sign up so that I don't have to sit coding alone on stage!

That is to say, I'm the only named *contestant*.

fizzer:
i am considering to come and play with you, but to be true i´d prefer to (try to) qualify at Evoke, because my family will visit that party in my hometown aswell! ;) Just Evoke has no Shader Showdown (announced) yet, i still hope they will have one! If they won´t announce anything until Nordlicht i will come to Nordlicht and we can have some fun!
But i think there will be others that like to have some 25mins of coding-fun! Still some weeks left for them to come up...
@hardy you are most welcome at nordlicht, no matter if you will participate in the showdown or not (but i think we still need people competing so you wont "steal" anybodies place).
If money is an issue we will make it work somehow as long as you can make the trip =)
