what to do with hates / permanent thumbdowners?

category: general [glöplog]
there are some people here on pouet, most of them are former russian zx demosceners, who always thumbs down every single prod by the people they hate. it's obvious personal dislike, and it's very disappointing. i feel, that we have nothing to do here with that crap, but i wanted to ask, if it was you, who are constantly disliked by some hater with your every release, what would you do?

concentrating on the positive comments
if those comments aren't constructive criticism then you should concentrate on the positive ones.

There's two distinct situations here. Certain people just dislike certain things you do, and it's nothing personal - I've long given up on pleasing Stakka's taste for example, and hey, sometimes he likes what I do, so I know it's not personal.

Being personal, however, is a whole different ballgame, and I personally don't want to tolerate that on Pouet because it's just using whatever forum you're on (be it Pouet or whereever else) as a battleground for something that has nothing to do with with the site or the site's function. Situations like these are incredibly hard to arbitrate because he-said-she-said-he-started-it-by-punching-back, and in a perfect world most of them should be dealt with by both sides settling the fuck down, but regardless the general rule about moderation applies - if you see something, say something, otherwise shit like this tends to fester indefinitely.

say where, to whom?
i mean, they make all it look like it's not personal, but if you look at the whole history - it definitely is. and it never ends.

Ignoring idiots on the Internet is a basic life skill nowadays. There's no pleasing some people, so it's best to just ignore them. I still wish someone explained to me clearly just what it is with the Russian spectrum people and all the drama though. That shit runs deep.

why do you care?

That's up to you - if you talk to the admins, that's one way, but it's probably even more efficient to put it out there in the court of public opinion. Thing is, noone monitors all prod threads ever, so if there's something wrong, you can say it here now.

yeah i suppose names and numbers are necessary to get to the bottom of this because objectively speaking, it's not quite so easy to discern who your supposed troll is on a 237/7 thumbratio

Even the man behind it seems to think it has gone down the drain.

(Yeah I know "The Internet" is older than www.)

The topic could be extended to the case of permanent party downvoters. For example, I was massive party-downvoted here http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=65500 and later i've got assurance to get all the same "1"-votes next time I'll try anything for the party. In comparison to this, simple pouet thumbdowns are fun :)

Coming from someone who's (been accused of) sitting on both sides of the fence - ignore them. The more credence you give them by discussing it, or engaging them; the more they enjoy it and will continue.

I know glöps are SRS BIZNIZ but in reality if a few dickheads are costing you Fake Internet Points what is it REALLY costing you IRL?
Other than some angst and annoyance - at which point it safe it's say - they've achieved their goal, haven't they.
They've pissed you off and instead of enjoying a beautiful day, rooting the missus or working on something productively you're thinking about them...

Alternatively Living well is the best revenge.

El Topo, thanks for the link, nice article. Worth reading even if a bit unrelated to the topic at hand.

ignoring the hate is the easiest way. install a tampermonkey script to ignore all text by those people automatically if you typically end up reading them.

generally stop caring about a 100% thumbup-quote! ;) It´s not reflecting reality anyway!
i put a downthumb on my own prods sometimes, just because i can! :D

ignoring those people may be hard, but generally what ringo said: stop caring, use your time in a better way!

in case you are saving up glöps for your personal extra super enterprise gold pouet account, just use the time to make more demos, get more glöps, profit! :)
lvd crying about thumbdowns such pathetic
