what to do with hates / permanent thumbdowners?

category: general [glöplog]
moroz1999: i think "fuckings to group xyz" is okay in the spirit of scene history. "handlexyz is a pedophile retard" is not okay and should probably be prosecuted in some way.

I have good experiences from not down-thumbing. No regrets. Try it for a year or two! It's free, you can start immediately and no external support systems or apps should be required.

One more thing:

With great power comes great responsibility.

i been thinkin again...

what about a dual system.
1. everyone can like (or not).
2. and if you have the glöps, (need x glöps for each legit vote) you can even vote legit (creating double glöps or somethin').
'cause as a contributor, one should have the voice to say something is legit.
and if a prod aint legit, ye just din't try hard 'nuff!
plus - if ya got no glöps, you should be makin' a demo 'bout it!

... figures!

(sorry, the dialect in ozark really gets to me sometimes ;-) )

there is something to be said about the idea of "earning the right to thumb" by having contributed to a prod or sth. but when thinking a bit more about it, it neither solves the problem at hand, nor should we disallow the "consumer" to vote...

jco: yeah, i guess, in the end, responsibility and etiquette are self-rewarding, glöpless traits.
normally, someone who really knows what i am just half-knowingly trying to do steps in and solves the math:

just do stuff that you like, and take the votes as what they are: a marginally interesting drama motor.

Having a mathematical rule just validates people who act like assholes and still adhere to those rules, because you remove your own ability to act since they are following the "written" rule. ("I can act like an asshole cos I have X glöps! You can't stop me!")

I like the idea of "no thumb down", because I don't see the point, most have no meaning, come from flameware and thing, if you allow thumbing down, allow it.

I think those Hugi downvote sprees would be even uglier if there wasn't an option just to thumb down without comment.

the option exists but its not that obvious ;)

ah ok you mean it youtube alike so that nobody really sees who voted in the comment timeline, yeah i get it.
ham, maybe that would be a thing - it would surely generate more thumbs in either direction - but im not sure if its a good idea to go the youtube way...

Seriously, the amount of thumb downs is not that high that it`s an issue. But i guess we live in the age of social justice and millimeter fairness.

Solution is simple: show the user's thumbup/thumbdown ratio next to their thumb. Then everyone can see the user's attitude. Maybe you even show a ratio for the user's votes against the current group.

well i think the urge to "thumb down" comes from an earlier time of scene, from a time where it was considered the right thing to do to call the lamers out and give them what they deserve (or something).
Nowadays people got a lot more touchy and even 3 thumbdowns on 100 upvotes can cause drama - what is there to learn about this?
I guess people dont want nor deserve harsh comments for creative stuff they do in their free time but on the other hand its still some sort of competition, is it not?

my point: got clearly downvoted for past three party, so I downvote when I want to. and when Im drunk I downvote a lot.
