Revision 2019 - April 19th to 22nd

category: parties [glöplog]
I think I still have a bit techgasm from that TBL demo. Also one of the best parties in years. You know the party was intense, when you _actually fall asleep in the middle of a sentence_ when back home. :D

Numtek: Fact of the matter is, sound levels were were lower than in previous years, but some ppl rather complain than spend 15eur/night on an apartment

I'm sorry, but this is so selfish bullshit :( I haven't found a 15eur hotel from those listed on the revision website, just about 60 or so.. So I told to myself. God, it's expensive like the whole entrance fee! That's why. It seems that I didn't know something, or read wrong? Missed something on the website about the hotel prices.

You don't catch a cold from cold temperatures. That's just trying to find a blame for something :P

It wasn't only me who complained about the cold air out of the a/c. That was simply a wrong idea to let it blow for such a long time.

@Aki I always wear earplugs when near a PA. :)

Good point. I will ;)
Quote:
Also, could you zoom in a bit on what you meant by saying' I slept in the party sleeping area. ' You slept near the second stage?

No no, I slept behind the bigscreen. Near windows. With earplugs and 3 pillows over my head. The bass and beat was so intensive that I (and some more people I've spoken with) simply coulndn't fall asleep.

If the air conditioning would've been off people would complain as well. In fact I also heard a lot of people complaining about that it's too hot. Some people just like to complain.

I Complain about revision being over.
Great great easter weekend, thanks so much for the organisation and all sceners over there!
Kudos everybody. Special Greetings to The Deadliners and TRSI too ;)
Aki: Why is it "selfish bullshit" if I mention the average price I paid for my apartment bed over the last 6 years during the Easter weekend? Also, to quote the Revision 2019 website:
Quote:
Everything concerning the hotel registration is handled by the tourism office of Saarbrücken.

There is no claim on the site whatsoever that these are the only places in Saarbrücken that you could stay at, or the cheapest, or anything like that. So it would be logical to assume it's just a list of hotels that's on good terms with the tourism office, wouldn't it?

Maybe I didn't get something right, but:
1. I open the Revision website and click on Accommodation & Hotels page
2. I read: Everything concerning the hotel registration is handled by the tourism office of Saarbrücken. So, if any questions or problems occur, please contact them directly!
Use the online reservation system to book your room!

3. I click on the Use the online reservation system to book your room! ;)
4. I get this:

No 15 EURO beds. Hm. So, what was your 15 euro hotel?

Thanks for another great Revision party! After a forced break from the scene for over a year, the compos and the whole atmosphere helped me getting motivated again. Will start coding my next demo immediately! :D

My only complaint would be the loudness of the PA during the compos, which I could tolerate only at the back of the hall. In front of the bigscreen: Way too loud.

I know there are free ear plugs available, but why calibrate a professional sound system when you then force the audience to wear distorting ear plugs?

Apart from that, great party. <3

I think I can answer to that. The designated sleeping area behind the big screen, although ways away from 2nd stage, is almost exactly located in the bass reflex zone from said second stage. Whatever is going on over at the infodesk/bar/2nd stage basswise reverberates immensely behind the big screen.
Yup. This^ This issue is next to impossible to solve without bringing in truckfulls of basstraps and building an inmense decoration object from the ground up till the ceiling. Probably need two as well. One next to the stage and one in the middle of the hall were the tabels are :p. To stop bassfrequencies you need a lot of mass. Unfortunatly the entire hall of E-werk is completly devoid of this during the night. Serious subbass doesn't case about a few tables, you'll need the hall filled with people or big massive objects to stop the lower frequencies.

What an amazing party it has been, thanks to everyone making it possible! I had a blast and feel

Girls and not only them were cold and had to put on clothes.

Can we also maybe voice criticism without white knighting here maybe? Or is the real problem here the lack of naked skin due to the change in temperatures?

Honestly, lots of the problems you've voiced can be solved by thinking ahead, so fortunately you know now how to prepare better for the next party!

I like:

* Really nice and well done theme
* Nice weather (thanks Team Chemtrail!)
* Almost no delays
* Generally great orgo team (as always)

I no like:
* Toilet cleanliness, they really need to fix the overflowing sinks.
* The Kirmespizza was pretty bad

To consider:
* Outside screen and sound

No complaints about the AC or the PA from me here. Everything was fucking perfect.

Thank you.

what a blast it was! one of the best recent party experiences, i wasn't bored for one second. thanks a lot to everyone involved!

some very small suggestions for improvement:

- it would be great if the outdoor pissoir would be located a bit less centrally - it's not very pleasant to pee in sight of everybody.

- wouldn't it be possible to put cushions or some similar material on the sitting-steps infront of the bigscreen?

- i don't need to go in more detail here as i already had a nice chat with those directly responsible at the party, but improving the process of the music compo preselection would greatly benefit the compo itself. i'll be very happy to share my experience as evoke music compo organiser, if needed.

- a suggestion for the contents of the visitors' bag: how about putting a small bottle of hand desinfection gel / sanitizer inside? a demoparty is quite a grimey business, and given the recent cases of mass stomach flu etc. at other parties, this could be a real health/hygiene benefit. because, no matter how cleanly you are in "real life", demoparty reality is often like this: you shake dozens of hands, go for a pee at the outdoor pissoirs with no water sink nearby, go and grab a pizza afterwards, etc. etc.

I also had the impression that the PA was considerably more tolerable this year, in particular during main stage acts. Compared to previous years, I felt much more comfortable during those. Regardless of how the volume levels were compared to last years, earplugs are an absolute must at an event like this, and they are provided for free, so make use of them.
And maybe it depends on where you were located in the hall but I rather felt way too warm rather than to cold at pretty much any point in time inside. Of course it's personal and that's exactly why you cannot provide the same cozy experience for a thousand visitors. Think ahead, you know better how you react to temperatures than orgas do.

To consider:
* Outside screen and sound

Some way of having the compo jingle heard (or seen) outside would be great to have. Not everyone can or wants to check their smartphone for notifications constantly.

Apart from that: What a great party this was! I have to say that I was a bit sceptical of the party theme initially but it was so extremely well executed, especially with all the different compo intros. Easily the best opening ceremony in years, but I feel that's a low barrier for comparison. ;)
Compos were great, in particular my beloved tracked music compo, and of course Amigaaaaaaaaaah! Of course some compos didn't quite hold up to last year's high standards, but it's impossible to raise the bar every year and still we managed to get some great entries nevertheless.
Revision has become the event where I say hi to some people for the first time on Monday morning, it's just so many damn great people there. At this point it's just impossible to have a good talk with all friends, so let's meet at Outline again and chill together, mkay?
a small bottle of hand sanitising gel costs about 0,80€ at dm or other drugstores, and I'm sure one could get "Mengenrabatt" somewhere and/or find a sponsor explicitly for this feature. i think it'd be really worth it!

Great party as usual. Had fun, met old and new people.

If I am to bring girlfriend (at the time of writing) to Revision next year, I'm sure that would be a requirement xD

Some slightly healthier food option would be nice. Like salads or noodles or something. Even the vegan food was burgers based.

Too loud? But there was a guy sleeping just in front of them during a concert!

Also I slept perfectly next to the Commodore with Space Invaders. Very quiet even with people passing by, make it longer so it can accommodate more people the next time.

yes, the food is a good point - everything was of fine quality (except for the pizzas maybe), but it would be really nice to have something more light, too. how about some soups? i'm sure they would be very popular.

This might also help avoid the situation where a bunch of people came in from outside at the start of one of the Saturday compo blocks and literally tipped my disabled walks-with-a-stick girlfriend off the bench she was sitting on, along with a bottle that smashed. I got some of the details at the party but she was only able to talk about it properly once we were on the way home. She was so upset she had to stay miserably at the hotel for the Sunday.

I want to stop complaining so I have to say that the party theme was the best (after the Evilbot, maybe) Revision theme! I super enjoyed the opening ceremony. If was so funny! That was simply cool! Posters, LED landing zone, everything!

Best Revision evar, as per usual! <3

Pro:
* Dat Amiga compo *_*
* Having reflective blankets over the windows in the orga area to prevent us from melting

Con:
* Upper midrange frequencies on the PA seemed seriously overexaggerated - I could have done fine without earplugs were it not for some of the bleepier soundtracks hurting my ears. I think I remember this being a problem during previous Revisions too, so either my ears are overly sensitive or there's some systemic calibrating an empty hall vs. playing to a full hall problem going on.
