sir: really off-topic here, but

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incarceration_in_the_United_States#/media/File:US_Prisoner_Demographics.svg

That's what I mean with "we have ACTUAL problems in the world", which I find much more worth fighting against instead of fighting about language.

groepaz: That indeed is new to me, interesting. But I think for me that was the last time I *really* found the content of a demo offensive. Solution was simple: I threw away the disks they were own.

Hollowman is spot on.

...what?

now that is a perfect example that illustrates my point.
some people _love_ to misunderstand each other (deliberately). It's probably due to a lack of empathy.
it makes you look cool, though. then again, our world leaders are considered sociopaths by experts in the field.

No, you're just not making sense or contributing to what little embers are left from a "discussion".

The problem with using terms like "SJW" and "Snowflake" is not necessarily that they are hurting. At least in the context of a Pouet-BBS-thread. The problem is that the terms are equating a group or person with a straw-man. Then the straw-man and not the real group or person is attacked.

Scamp: You let this wrongness slip into your thoughts! Of course the caricature of a progressive as "SJW" describes will never get enough until your website is in comic-sans and has kitten-gifs. But the "SJW" does not exist. It is a construction made to fight liberals and progressives.

That is why you should not use these words in an argument. When you argument against a straw-man, your whole argument is void and not based on the reality.

In reality, you have not been censored and your invites have been shown in the compo and (I suspect) you have full control over UC organizing.

I dislike the whole concept of forbidden words.

Again: no words are "forbidden".

There are words and terms and implications that make people uncomfortable/hurt and thus make you (and by association, the party and the people involved with it) come across as a dick. WF didn't want to stay under that umbrella, and quit. That's it.

You're free to call the compo whatever, but apparently people are not free to express their opinion as free speech without vindication.

Where is the difference between "forbidden" and "come across as a dick"? It's still blacklisting, with me now not being sure if "blacklisting" is also "blacklisted".

These language wars are a silly distraction for people who don't have the balls to work on ACTUAL problems.

After all, ranting on the Internet about other people's speech, work and art is so much easier than to actually create something of value yourself.

Like organizing a demoparty. Which I will now get back to.

So what is today's PC replacement term to now describe people in the same meaning as "snowflake", but "non-derogatory", and the PC replacement term for what "Social Justice Warrior" means?

For example "criticizers"? ...and what chaos said.

Also even tho UC organizers have all the power to not invite someone to the party, it sounds really weird to uninvite wayfinder. In Finland there are and have been a couple of persons not welcome to demoparties but the reason has been due to wrecking stuff and not paying for it or actually stealing stuff. I remember no such case where argumentation over design of the party would've led to such drastic action.

"criticizers" doesn't even come close to "tries to force his world view onto others". After thinking about it, what comes close is "missionary", which I will probably use from now.

Didn't find a replacement for "snowflake", though. The term "pussy" is no longer PC, I guess.

At least this thread has brought one good thing: It has given me an idea for a new compo to add. Stay tuned.

i suggest this wonderful chilling track for such microcosm troubles…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcImlxojThY

funny to see, some Things stay in sceneland as they are. Go out , enjoy the sun, give hands. Earth has other issues to solve.
the difference between "forbidden by law" and "sanctioned by your peers" is that one is a preemptive "dont do that" with governmental penalties attached if you do it still, and the other a "you shouldnt have done that" with interpersonal consequences that *can only happen after you did the thing*, at a point where censorship is already impossible.

that's not academic wordplay but an important conceptual difference.

if your line of thinking is "well if i say this or that people will treat me worse so that's equivalent to censorship" then congrats you already know that what you want to do is societally unacceptable.

At this point the discussion there was only circling between

Wayfinder: blablabla
Scamp: Please leave me alone
Wayfinder: blablabla
Scamp: Please leave me alone

anyway, so I've now locked it. Everybody seriously had enough of it. Let's stop and do something productive.

sjw.html is still online, you still haven't apologized for treating me like this. maybe start with the stopping yourself before you ask it from others

because *I*, the person who invented the thing

So for 20 years you were rather cool or at least indifferent to the compo name/edgy joke and now, out of the blue, the Moralin dose hits you right in the Jimmies?
I'd call that fishy at best -- talk about succumbing to the new craze of fun-stopping starting to creep into every aspect of subculture/entertaining over the last 5 years.

it took us less than 5 minutes to come up with a better name for the compo ("S&MP3") yesterday.

Meh. Lacks the attitude of the old name. If anything it should be BDSMP3

Possibly because UC wasnt happening between 2006 and 2017? Also, what's wrong with denouncing stupid shit you've done? Why are we not only averse but try to actively shame personal growth and learning from your experiences?

no, for 20 years i did not re-examine it. my attention was called to it and i realized, yep, i agree it's not good. i thought it was 20 years ago but i had grown up a little in the meantime and just not looked at it in a critical light since. does that still feel fishy at best? idk.

chaos: OK, thank you, I get the point of a straw-man. It sure is not my intention to attack liberal values, which I clearly share.

I'll avoid the term SJW from now, and go with "missionary". I think that is just as clear as SJW, and even provides some background in regards of this phenomenon of people trying to force their believes and world-view onto others actually not being new. And it probably brings less meta discussions.

And once this stuff has stopped, sjw.html will be gone with the next website update anyway, which will rather focus on the details of the "Offroad live shader coding" and "Seaworld Graphics" compos.
