demoparty belgium - rsync

category: parties [glöplog]
Hi.
I am crazy and am doing it again. (Says the former lead organizer of @party)

I the lead organizer of a demoparty named
RSYNC.
Our website is demoparty.be.

It will take place
(for the first time)
the evening of January 10 and the day of January 11, 2020,
in the middle of Brussels
a five-minute walk from the Merode metro station.

We are timed to take advantage of cheap travel and hotel costs just after New Years as well as there not being many other parties in the dead of winter hello TUM/unTUM.

Our compos lead is Franky, so we'll have at least one Revision-level organizer :D

Best plan is to fly in on Friday. Sunday is intentionally a free day so folks can enjoy Brussels together and not stress about flights/trains. There are many awesome things to enjoy.
There is a bar at the venue because this is not the US.
However, it is not possible to sleep at the venue. Info for alternatives below.
There is room for 90 attendees (allowing room for organizers) and we have already sold some tickets . . .

Ask me questions!

Some financial details that may be useful below, obtained with much research.

TICKET TYPES
Standard ticket - € 35,00
Student / Unemployed ticket - € 10,50
Long Distance Traveller (countries not using Euro, USD or GBP) - € 20,00
Supporter ticket - € 100,00

HOTEL/AIRBNB/HOSTEL COSTS

*Airbnbs (calculated based on one person for two nights) start at 97 euro

*Hotels (from hotels.com calculated based on two people for two nights) start at 178 euro

*There are hostels (from www.hihostels.com, calculated based on one person) that start at ~44 euro per night in a dorm, it is also possible to get a room for 4/5 people, but this doesn't actually save much over Airbnb.

thank you (:

Also, I forgot to say, from the UK it seems you can take Eurostar from London to Brussels for about 88 GBP but I can't seem to find a train on the Sunday. However that may be because the date is so far in the future.

There's also a ferry between Zebrugge (Belgium) and Hell (UK): https://www.directferries.com/
Also ack typo I mean HULL. Sorry. *facepalm*

Actually, from Budleigh Salterton, it is about an 8 hour drive if you take what looks like the Dover ferry. I'm not sure which crossing is the best/cheapest honestly. Franky swears by the one between Rotterdam and I forget where, but then you have to drive longer. And I think that one is overnight.
Will be there on Saturday, I hope with a release. Friday will depend on my/the schedule.

Do I need to buy a ticket beforehand, or can I get one at the entrance?

Is any info about the compos coming anytime soon?

And... why did you have to plan it during my exams? :[ (I'll probably still be there on Saturday, it's 25 km by bicycle for me.)

A (basic) schedule would be a big help in deciding if it makes sense to try attending this party. Also, how about parking fees in the area?

another small question:

https://demoparty.be/about/ sounds a lot like it's copypasted from consolekabels.be, as it talks about orders and postal packets etc. Is this intentional?

@porocyon - tickets at the door should still be possible (the place does have a fire dept limit that we are not even close to atm) tho we prefer some presales to pay for all the rental gear we need to pay up front ourselves. the about legal stuff is copy paste indeed, it does the job. the orders relate to ticket sales in this case.

@havoc - schedule is being worked on this weekend

@mantratronic - we'll also set up the competition list this weekend but yes good chance for remote entries in some compos, not yet final which ones.

*bump*

Does the Gameboy Advance count as oldschool, or will I have to port my old unused code to another platform? (It is a "device with a CPU that has a 16 bit or smaller data bus"...mostly. MMIO is 32-bit, VRAM, RAM, ... are all 16-bit)

gba is fine porocyon, no worries. Fits in the 5th gen and indeed the right bus size.
Anyone driving there going past Koblenz, Köln or Aachen and who can take an extra passenger? I'd be happy to share the cost of course.

As of now the remote entry submission seems not to be working (or exist yet). Is this still to come?

It looks like I have conflicting appointments :( Is there going to be another edition next year?

Allrighty then.

There are a bunch of updates in the week before the party so lets get started :

First of all : Remote Entries Upload is enabled for *ALL* competitions. Head over to https://pm.demoparty.be/ to upload your entries.

In addition we have also published the full and close-to-complete timetable at https://www.demoparty.be/timetable/

Finally we have made some minor tweaks to the compo rules to match them with the harsh reality of life. The full list of competitions and the rules can be found at https://www.demoparty.be/competitions/

Ticket sales are still open. While you can obviously get one at the door, presales alows us to prepay some of the party expenses such as AV rental, venue caution, beer supplies, etc. Tickets are available thru DeineTickets https://www.deinetickets.de/shop/rsync19/ (and yes the URL says 19, but its correct :) )

metoikos and franky: alright, thanks. (Now to find some time to cobble together a prod...)

And re: transport: I just got a cold, so I don't think a bicycle ride home at night is a good idea :/ Is there anyone willing to drop me off 25 km to the east of Brussels on Friday night? (There's no public transport at that hour. I'll be coming to the party by train, so that's not an issue.)
