Lightmap creation tools

category: general [glöplog]

Hello all,

I was wondering whether any of you are using something to generate lightmaps, for a given model.

I am using LightMapMaker, which is, I must say, rather badly written, but does the job (ish). Any plugins for 3ds maybe, or another (freeware) application... ?

i use Microsoft Visual Lightmap .NET

it takes 3.5 gigs of hard disk space and costs several hundred dollars though...

Skarab: if you think about the render to texutre function - it sucks. The lightmaps it generates are used to 20% at best - and it creates ugly seams and errors at almost every edge. Plus it's freaking SLOW to use, slows down the already slow 3dxmax gui again by a wee bit, and then good luck trying to export those lightmapped geometry. We in our company did once, and it took as much work and money as buying an external solution would have.

the lightwave lightmap function sucks too.. Same problem with ugly seams all over the place.. Anyone know of any good normal map generators that removes the ugly seams?
