The Meteoriks Awards 2020

category: general [glöplog]
The Meteoriks are back!

It's this time of the year again! Just like in the previous years, the Meteoriks awards set out to honor the best productions of the year 2019, and again we're striving for a very open process by asking everyone to apply to become part of our juries!

JURY DUTY

"We" - right now that is just the Meteoriks organizing team. We cannot and should not decide on the categories, award nominees and, ultimately, the laureates of the Meteoriks Awards, and that's why we need you to sign up to be part of the jury! You know you want to!

Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into, these are your duties as jurors:

  • Review last year's productions in any way you see fit for your category
  • Identify up to five nominees
  • Choose a winner
  • One member out of each jury should represent their category on stage during the awards show

All in all, this will take between four and eight evenings' worth of time out of your busy schedules, mostly spread across February and March 2020.

Still interested? Awesome - please apply at https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror :D

We're going to add applicants to our Slack as applications arrive and are accepted, so the earlier you apply, the more you'll be able to make your voice heard in the early stages of planning :) The last date to apply is Friday, January 31st.

And so it starts! Head over to https://www.meteoriks.org/ and start participating! We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Watch our invitation demo, become a juror

This weekend at rsync (https://www.demoparty.net/rsync-2020/) we released "teori", an invitation demo for the upcoming Meteoriks! Check it out at https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=84535

Massive thanks to ratz and Lesnik of Altair for pulling this off and delivering a kick-ass production <3

We hope that the demo will motivate all of you to apply for juror duty this year - we are still accepting applications until the end of the month, and the earlier you join us, the more you'll be able to take part in decisions about this year's categories :)

JURY DUTY

Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into, these are your duties as jurors:

  • Review last year's productions in any way you see fit for your category
  • Identify up to five nominees
  • Choose a winner
  • One member out of each jury should represent their category on stage during the awards show

THE METEORIKS 2020 CATEGORIES

Our jury has deliberated long and hard, and we have settled on a set of ten award categories. This year, we are going to nominate and award productions in the categories of:

  • New Talent - The group or individual scener that made their most memorable entrance in 2019
  • Best Visuals - The production with the most beautiful and impressive art style, graphics, effects, modeling, texturing, color scheme, ...
  • Best Direction - The production with the best overall cohesion, camerawork, atmosphere, pacing, story, ...
  • Outstanding Concept - The production that most impressed us with bold decisions, novel ideas, extending the scene's aesthetic vocabulary
  • Best Soundtrack - The production with the best soundtrack
  • Outstanding Technical Achievement - The production that most dropped our jaws as it was previously deemed impossible
  • Best Low-End Production - The overall best production on a low-end platform
  • Best Small High-End Intro - The overall best production in 8k or less
  • Best High-End 64k Intro - The overall best production between 8 and 64k
  • Best High-End Demo - The overall best production between 64k and INFINITY!

You can also check them out at https://2020.meteoriks.org/categories

Over the course of the next weeks, our jurors will wade through last year's productions and choose up to five nominees for each category. And you can help them by making sure your personal favorites are not overlooked! Unlike in previous years, you can now suggest productions directly via Pouët! Until midnight on Sunday, March 9, you can suggest any production of 2019 to our juries directly from a prod page. Go right ahead and help us out :)

Another call for jurors!

Speaking of helping out - over the past two weeks, a lot of people applied to be jurors, and we're very happy with the participation already! <3

That said, we want MOAR. More jurors mean more opinions, more participation and ultimately better results! We'd like to have a jury of at least 30 people (ten juries of three persons each), and we're not there yet, so keep the applications coming!

There are no special requirements to becoming a juror - you don't need to be a scene superstar with a buttload of releases under your belt. All we need from you is an opinion, a couple evenings' worth of time and the will to make a decision together with your fellow jurors.

Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into, these are your duties as jurors:

  • Review last year's productions in any way you see fit for your category
  • Identify up to five nominees
  • Choose a winner
  • One member out of each jury should represent their category on stage during the awards show

If you're interested, drop everything you're doing and join us at https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror right now! It's still over a week to the deadline (January 31), but why wait and forget? ;)

According to the categories you are just going to tell us what the most mainstream productions are.
That's quite boring unfortunately. "Outstanding Concept" seems to go into a more interesting direction, though.

And I would like to publicly thank Garg for pulling this off - it's a huge boon to us! <3

For those who may be wondering how to:

Go to a prod page and scroll down 👇 (obviously it only shows up for prods released in 2019)

indeed, many thanks to Garg.

And I am very pleased to already see positive feedback for Outstanding Concept :D
whoop whoop! :)
Also worth mentioning that you can suggest more than one prod for each category.

SUGGESTIONS VIA DEMOZOO

You may have already noticed that the prod pages on Demozoo look a little different lately :)

Just like on Pouët you can now send your favorite prods to the Meteoriks jury via the other demo-loving website as well! Massive thanks to Gasman and Shifter for implementing this feature! <3

Until midnight on Sunday, March 9, you can suggest any production of 2019 to our juries directly from a prod page on https://demozoo.org/. If you already did this on Pouët there is no need to do it again on Demozoo - our jurors will of course consider prods submitted via both websites.

Suggest away! :D

Thank you for further establishing that Pouët is the official Demozoo forum :D

Apparently you're unaware of https://demozoo.org/forums/156/ ;) My spam cannon goes EVERYWHERE! :D

TL;DR, are the suggestions anonymous? I mean, do jurors see who's suggested what?
added on the 2020-02-08 18:22:01 by lvd lvd
Can't speak for Demozoo, but on Pouët no, they're just tallied.
added on the 2020-02-08 19:17:58 by Gargaj Gargaj
Same on Demozoo (or it will be when I actually implement that bit...)

@Gargaj, @gasman -- thanks

PROD SUGGESTIONS CLOSED

The deadline for prod suggestions via Demozoo and Pouët has now passed, and we have received prod suggestions from over 130 sceners!

Thank you all for helping us out here and pointing out your personal favorites to us, this is a big help in our jurying process.

And hugs and kisses again to Gargaj, Gasman and Shifter for making this work <3
