We're proud to announce:

Outline Online 2020

From Friday May 22nd 11:30AM until Sunday May 24th 11:30AM CEST the Outline organizing team will be streaming live from the Trepaan HQ in Zevenaar, The Netherlands to your livingroom. Supporter tickets start at 10EUR, a voting ticket is only 1EUR, and the Twitch.tv stream is free for everyone!

What can you expect from this virtual demoparty?

- SofaWorld (now with character customization! Woohoo!)
- Compos (Demo/Intro, 128byte, Music, Graphics and Photo)
- Shader Showdown
- DJ sets
- Curated demoshows
- Okkie and Shifter playing shots at 10AM
- Metric fucktons of traditional Dutch "gezelligheid"
- Probably a bunch of fuckups because this is the first time we're trying this

We're working on some final details before we will upload a new version of our site where you can register and buy tickets. Detailed compo rules will also be announced on our website ASAP. Potential entries can already be sent to compos@outlinedemoparty, and DJ's, live coders, video editors, demoshow curators and anyone else who thinks they can create content that might be of interest to or could potentially entertain our party's virtual visitors is more than welcome to contact us via info@outlinedemoparty.nl.

Please note that we have also reserved a date for a physical party at the venue in Ommen for later this year. Outline will, at it's core, always be focused on organizing live physical events in The Netherlands when it is safe to do so. But in this period of mandatory social distancing due to Covid19, our team would rather put effort in organizing an online demoparty than just hanging around on our non-virtual sofas. We hope that you, our visitors, share this opinion and will support us with releases for our compos and your participation in the other events that we have announced above.

Looking forward to receiving your feedback, ideas, entries and suggestions, and ofcourse to seeing you in SofaWorld, or on Twitch/Discord/IRC, this upcoming Ascension day weekend!

On behalf of the Outline organizing team,

Havoc

i hope Sofaworld will allow traveling to multiple historic Outline locations, just to see those trampolining alpacas or to see Havoc getting chased by an angry camping owner with a hayfork while 'breaking the law' is being performed by Gwem :P

also Linux users! D:<

(and, hmm, I have an idea for a GBA tiny intro, but those need to be >128b because of the ROM header .-.)

1 Euro, you could get a Fanta for that!
poro: we decided to announce a limited set of compos because we don't know how many entries (and what formats/platforms) we should expect now that we're doing the party online for the first time. tiny GBA intros would obviously qualify for the general demo/intro category, and if we receive enough entries to justify a separate compo (along logical size and/or platform lines, for example) we'll be happy to split it off, time allowing. so best advice i can give right now is to announce your plans via our compos email address, so our compo orgas are aware of what you're planning and can keep that in mind while we work out more details with regards to the schedule :)

havoc: eh, I can't really demand anything from you. the only thing I have atm is a silly idea for a GBA 256b.

A 128-byte question:

Are the compo rules similar to earlier years in that the header (if it is required on the platform) is not included in the size?

Virtual bar here I come.
Sounds good. Count me in. Starting where and how can remote entries be submitted?

Could the orga-team just send out props and stuff to dress up yourself to photobomb the online-event during bar-time?

seconded, because that could solve my GBA problem (GBA ROM header is 192 bytes (of which 156 are the Nintendo logo...)

Blueberry, porocyon: A standard header will not be counted for the 128b compo size limit indeed. But using the header to store custom data and/or code is not allowed. So for example, an Atari ST 128b can be 160b on disk (128b intro + 32b standard header). Or a CPC 128b could be 256b on disk assuming it doesn't abuse the 128b AMSDOS header. The Nintendo logo in the GBA ROM header is fair game, just like the Atari logo that's in all ST and Falcon ROMs, etc etc.
