Compo machine as a service?

category: general [glöplog]

I was wondering, since we have all this streaming gaming at the moment, is there any service where I can use a beefy computer for a weekend and stream it (1080p60), as a compo-machine-as-a-service kind of thing?

I know you're talking about a high-end PC here, but it would be useful to be able to do this with retro stuff too. eg: I can't easily bring a ZX Spectrum to a party so if the rules state that they need to capture from real hardware then I'm stuck.

And that's where my new, recently patented, "SaaS" (Spectrum as a Service) comes in..

Anyway, back to the question. I don't feel like I'm adding anything of use by saying this, but I'll say it anyway: You could probably set this up with AWS/EC2 "easily enough", and that might be the best way to do it.

Those only support OpenGL via a special networked driver tho; if you want an actual GPU with Direct3D and everything, you'll need a G4 instance (eg. g4dn.xlarge for a compo machine). Not exactly free at ~$1/hr or up but doable for a compo machine for three or four days.

@evilpaul also interesting, for remote parties it would make sense.
