Your unpopular opinions about the scene

category: residue [glöplog]
there's too much emphasis on party at demoparties these days with more DJ sets than demos
The old German diskmags that did not focus on the demoscene content-wise were far more interesting than newer, scene-related diskmags.

proper demos are coded, not made with an "engine"

A PC demo or intro should run in real-time on a consumer level PC.

I'm looking at you, all groups who release prods that stutter at 10fps on their machine but hope that it will be ok on the compo machine.

That's pretty much shows their lame coding skills.

Consumer PC = smartphone.
Target platform = Youtube, kkaptured to 60 fps. And the one compo machine.

Practically nobody REALLY runs demos on their own machines, they watch Youtube videos. I thought everyone knew this.

For "oldskool" demos, practically nobody has CRTs or if they have, they still prefer Youtube and emulators, because it's more comfortable and who cares really. Even demo watchers choose to watch demos in a lame way! Lame coding for a lame audience.

You suck! This thread sucks! Demos suck!

I hate YouTube capture due to severe macroblocking.

why don't we all just get a PROPER hobby instead?
When sceners get older they act more and more like parents from back then and today. Complaining about this and that instead of calming down down and code!

if you think regular demo compos are long and boring, visit X
Name voting and demo groups acting like cyber-gangs.

youtube versions of demos are the best - its easy, doesnt require me to own the platform, and can skip over boring stuff

name voting and self-voting are normal practice and an age-old part of the scene, some clueless folks want to see pouet's thumbs as some kind of an indefinitely running public vote, trying to oppose "self-voting" and act as self-appointed behavior police

Barely clothed streamers have a bigger audience than the best demos
will ever have.

your job is to make demos, not worry about barely clothed streamers

the whole concept of popularity is why the Marketplace of ideas doesn't work.

People who never make anything themselves are free to have opinions about how demos should be made, but probably shouldn’t except to be taken seriously.

I often code my demos barely clothed. Why don't I get double the popularity?!

You might not use the right emoji in the title of your stream.

Also PC "sceners" generally use Adobe to click their Demos!
