Demosplash 2021 — 12–13 November 2021

category: parties [glöplog]

CMUCC is proud to announce that the 11th annual Demosplash will be held on 12–13 November 2021.

Due to continued uncertainty regarding ongoing protocols at our usual venue related to mitigation of COVID-19, it is not yet known whether Demosplash 2021 might be able to have an in-person component. Don't worry, though! Our friends at SceneSat will be streaming the whole event live from Pittsburgh either way. Perfect for sofa-sceners the world around! You can still expect to see the usual compos, interesting talks, and demos running on as much original hardware as we can bring together.

See http://www.demosplash.org for more details.

From the website:

Quote:
Coding with the technology of today using Bonzomatic to showcase your coding skills.

Important Update for 2020: Due to this year's event being virtual, this is NOT a live shader compo; rather, we are seeking pre-written shaders for this category.

I wonder, is there any reason why NuSan's networking-enabled Bonzomatic fork for remote live-coding compos will not be used?

(mostly just curious, I don't plan on entering myself, it's not really my thing, sorry)

@porocyon: Those are last year's categories. As the site says, "We are still determining what compo categories will be offered in 2021." We'll look into whether that will be feasible on our end.

Several updates and announcements!

1. Based on the ongoing pandemic protocols at our university and venue, at this juncture, it is very likely that we will NOT be able to welcome members of the general public to Demosplash 2021 in-person. We're still hopeful we can at least invite local students at the university, but for everyone else, we are committed to providing an awesome streaming experience!

2. We are looking for speakers who would like to join us remotely to give a 30- to 40-minute presentation for Demosplash 2021. Europeans, this is your chance to join us! Do you have a cool project you're working on? A favorite demoscene or chiptune topic? Send your ideas and a brief blurb to organizers@demosplash.org and if it's a good fit, we'll be in touch! (Europe-friendliest timeslots Saturday 13 November, after 18:00 CET; Asia/Pacific-friendliest timeslots Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 November, before 12:00 JST.)

3. The categories for our 2021 compo have now been finalized. In particular, we have the new addition of a size-constrained category for our friends at or below 1 KiB. Full details and rules for all categories at http://www.demosplash.org/compos As always, submissions will open approximately 2–3 weeks before the event, in late October.

🚨 It's only 2½ weeks until Demosplash 2021, and that means our compo system is open for submissions!

Review the rules at http://demosplash.org/compos and submit your entries at http://compo.demosplash.org by Friday 12 November, 24:00 EST (Sat 0500 UTC).

📹 We'll be streaming the whole event live with help from SceneSat so that demoscene and chiptune fans both near and far can enjoy the experience. And we're happy to announce that we'll be keeping around remote voting as an element of our compos for the foreseeable future!

Unfortunately, due to ongoing campus health & safety protocols, in-person attendance at Demosplash 2021 is limited to current Carnegie Mellon University affiliates and event organizers ONLY. We miss you dearly, but we hope to see you in the event chat on 12–13 Nov!
