To save everybody's time: It's not an introduction to the demo scene in a broader sense; it's laser-focused on the C64. The "how it works" part is also best described as "how some very common effects are done".

Not going to say that it's bad though, quite the contrary; it's just not entirely what you think it might be when reading the title.

Based on the questions from the audience, I think the presentation was a pretty good fit.

The question that keeps popping up again and again, which I find very unsettling:

"How does one learn xyz?"

And I can't help but wonder what happened to good old "learning by doing"? It feels like society unlearned that along the way. Creepy.

In the context of that talk, it felt more like asking for some pointers to tutorials or documentation to start learning. Which is a-okay, isn't it? =)

Very nice presentation! The 8-bit guy is really great at communicating oddities from the past. A fine balance between nerdy stuff and "not tranquilizing the audience"

The guy in the video CLAIMS to be "The 8-Bit Guy", but he focuses exclusively on the C64. There were other 8-Bit computers out there!!

Also, his presentation was not properly researched. He "thinks" the Demoscene originated from cracking, but there's no doubt about it: it DID.

I don't really understand the emphasis on the C64 for such a thing anyway: it may have originated on there, but the Amiga is a much better sandbox for that sort of experimentation.

the outrage! i almost feel tempted to fire up breadbox64 on my c64 and fire an angry tweet at this "The 8-Bit Guy" for the irreparable damage he has done misrepresenting the demo scene as a whole in front of a bunch of people! also, the demo scene as a whole should be written demoscene, not demo scene!
I thought it was a cute presentation

It's a difficult subject to communicate in a short time but I think he did quite well.
