Assembly Creative Tech - demoscene event - 5 Nov 2021

category: general [glöplog]

Hey all!

As ASM Summer Fall edition was also cancelled, we decided to organize a mini event in November. Most of the covid restrictions have been lifted, so now we finally can organize something physical!

See more details https://assembly.org/articles/assembly-creative-tech-2021

So what will be there? There will be compos! Big screen! Sceners! Bar! (yes!!)

We will also host Opera Beyond finals, competition where media/computer art meets opera. This is done together with the finnish National Opera. The finalists will be presented at the event and winner chosen for the upcoming opera production in 2022.

We will also host a keynote and a panel which connect to combining "new" art and traditional art (TBD) .

All in all, this event will take place in Helsinki at November 5th. More details like rules and prizes will be announced shortly. In the meanwhile, see https://assembly.org/articles/demoscene-competitions what is actually happening.

We will be showing older demos too at the big screen during the evening, so this will be a good time to come and see friends and demos while enjoying a drink or two.

The event is sponsored by Supercell, Telia, Remedy Entertainment and Seriously Entertainment.

Tickets are also available at https://events.liveto.io/events/assembly-creative-tech-21

Looking forward to get cool entries and seeing you all physicall after a loooong break

Missing wild/short-film format and resolution. Also what are the allowed oldskool platforms?

Can you confirm that it's ok to submit an emulator recording as an entry to the Oldskool compo as a last resort if real hardware isn't available?

"A preselection jury will be held to comply with the time limit of each compo (30 minutes)."

Does this mean the executable compo as well?

Some answers:

fragment: everything is being output in 1080p60. So making the video into that will cause the less amount of questionmarks. If the video is, say 320x200p50, then the outcome is based on what kind of a day the scaler is having.

evilpaul and fragment: we *currently* only support Windows systems, as this event is being done by a skeleton crew. One sign of that being that it is me answering these questions of all people :) however! we are trying to amass some oldskool machines to record off of. TBA. but as a general rule: submitting an emulator capture without an excellent excuse or without prior conversation with compocrew, will most likely cause the entry to be relegated from Combined Demo to Wild/Short Film.

yzi: a preselection jury will be applied to all and any competitions, where the total playing time of entries goes above 30 minutes. we are on a very strict timetable on this event, and while we would love to play all entries, it is unfortunately impossible in the given timeframe of the event.

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated!

Follow up question: how do I get in contact with the compocrew to start that conversation? :)

Well that was easy and logical to find: it was buried on the secondary site and in finnish only, because apparently someone thinks that all assembly guests speak finnish.

We have updated our schedule:

https://assembly.org/articles/creative-tech21-schedule

All times are Finnish times. And if I am looking at this correctly, the timezone at that time will be UTC+2 / EET. Daylight savings always screws me over.

All deadlines are next Friday, the 29th of October 2021 at 23:59 finnish time, which will make it UTC+3 / EEST.
