My crew is going to be there! We're coming from the USA, Israel, England, and Germany; can we assume the hotel recommendations on the 2019 site are still valid?

Sounds like a great delegation - we're looking forward to you all!

The hotels are still alive and well - unlike the link to the Leonardo, so here's a live one! From what I've seen, the new MotelOne Köln-Messe also looks like a good potential candidate (>20min route via public transport, or a nice 40min walk to the location if you're feeling like it). Hope that helps!

As for the updates...
We we might be a little quiet for now, but we sure are coming back into our groove!
The party planning is very much on and going into "the hot phase", as it is our usual after Revision. Expect more info soon, as we meet this week to talk over details, prepare answers for your questions and conduct the hype train that is bringing Evoke back to the people <3

There are also some "undergroundy" hotels at least in Deutz. Ping me, if you need some help here.... ;)

We have a Website!

While we're still finalizing the compo information and aren't about to spoil our live acts just yet, you can already go check it out, register and buy a ticket while you're there. :)

With that we also have a little bit of bad news: Unfortunately, due to construction work the skate park will not be available as a sleeping hall this year.

While we're still trying to find a decent and nearby alternative for you to use, it might make sense to look into booking a hotel this year.
We are sorry for the inconvenience and hope that you're still with us!

I'm a little envious, because a busy weekend stuck at work will prevent me from attending, sadly. But it is super cool to see that you guys are back to organize a real demoparty once again! I'll closely follow you via videostream as the awesomeness unfolds! :)

FYI:
Pension Bickhofe does not offer rooms anymore (like out of business)

Maybe, while you're at it, you could consider establishing a better compo structure and address at Evoke.

For years it has been suggested on the Evoke Website that participants "port" their demos over to WINDOWS if they don't run on WINDOWS, because WINDOWS is the only official platform at Evoke. See https://2019.evoke.eu/competitions/executable/

Probably just a bad joke, but could be interpreted as ignorance about the nature of demos.

Next up would be the disproportionate allotment between WINDOWS PC and the wastebasket that are the "alternative platforms".
This in the past has lead to entries pretending to be for a certain platform, while they were not, all thanks to the total arbitrariness and indifference that speaks out of "alternative platforms".

A more sane proposition would be in my opinion: Compos for 8bit, 16bit, other. Have one compo for each by default, ad hoc split them up into intro/demo/etc. according to participation.

Jesus, glad you came along and showed them the way.
Bonus points for first telling them how much they suck before making demands. That'll sway em for sure!
(Disclaimer: Spare yourself the semantics. This is how you're coming across to people and it isn't going to earn you any kind of Wohlwollen from the orgas.)

This. The "Kotzbrocken"-label applies here.

What sucks at Evoke was the address and compo structure.
Why are you getting personal?

Parties have also always been allowed to choose which compos they do and don't want to run. If you don't like it, nobody's making you release anything.

I totally respect that Evoke is PC centric, and every party can and should have their own flavour. Evoke however could be even better if non-Windows entries (which, according to the 2019 website, were endorsed) wouldn't be lumped into just one huge compo, hence the feedback. Last time there were 17 entries - five C64, four Amiga, each more than in PC 64k. And I found this endorsement in an odd contrast to the idea of porting a demo to Windows.

We'll be there! And after 7 years of visiting, finally bring a Linux 4k intro, yay :) (would be great to know what the exact Linux setup will look like as soon as you can make it, but no pressure really… thanks for making evoke possible!)

As long as we can enter something that runs on a very slow DOS system (don't worry, we'll bring a video in case our hardware craps out), we'll be there.

From a spectator's perspective, I always found one big competition with completely mixed platforms and entries very entertaining.

I doubt, however, that many viewers can realistically assess all the different devices. So from a participant's point of view, I can understand the wish that the contributions should be better comparable. And who, if not a potential participant, should express this wish?

Will a 'executable music' category be added to the list of competitions? Or is there a underlaying reason not to.
