Looks like Revision rules allow GenAI prods again this year. :-/

Where do you read this?

here .
Looking forward to the party, yay! But yeah, gotta agree - not being suspicious about the origin of the art used in prods would make the party more enjoyable :)
@darya: Of course I read the rules, but I interpret them different I think. At the end of the day it’s all about the honesty of the contributors. You can make a strict „No AI“-rule, but I think the team has not the time to check if the contributors stick to it.

No AI generated or inspired entries in graphics and music compos. No purely AI content in other compos.
I was referring to "other compos", which contain the real-time compos. But might be work in progress, as there are no specific compo rules yet. In any case, I typed the post because I would like to neither consume nor compete against anything made with the help of AI.
I'm REAL happy that you guys decided to do this again this year. Thank you!
I'm also glad to see that AI-generated content is still banned.

See you there! :)
YES!
”No purely AI content in other compos.”
followed by
”Entries have to be free of third party rights unless you have a legal license to use the given content. This means no ripped music or vocal samples, no movie snippets, no closeups of trademarked logos, etc.”
is confusing considering that genAI is nothing but stolen and regurgitated third party content.
Also to pre-empt any reply guy coming in with the standard ”well, ackshually” -schtick… Fuck you very much.

Actually, that's one possible interpreation. :-)

Let's Party and take 4 days of coffee flatrate 😎
Fingers crossed to be able to join you

Although Adobe claims otherwise according their training of Firefly.
The anticipation of finally seeing you all again will help me keep the warmth in my heart until then.

I don’t believe in the unrestricted honesty of participants.
It starts with name voting (we all did that sometimes) and “put votekeys here” boxes (several groups do that) , continues with graphics competitions where AI-generated works (especially so-called old-school graphics) are presented and celebrated as original hand-made art, and of course this also applies to music.
In my opinion, the only viable solution is to require participants to provide work steps and project files. I’m aware that this means significantly more work for the competition organizers, but I don’t see any other realistic option.
In earlier sports events, no one imagined that one day entire laboratories would be needed to analyze doping samples either. AI is essentially massive doping for art...if not outright fraud.
Very few people want to address this topic, mostly out of fear of conflict: But the fact that competitions are being manipulated is a reality we have to face now.
_docd: If I remember correctly someone said that AI can provide worksteps as well since recently.

Also applies for code. Make people do the equivalent of TurnItIn for academia. Have ALL code scanned by a third party or a jury before being entered into a compo. Otherwise it is rejected and the demo banned.
If people are asking it for visual and audio media, why not programming as well? Might as well.

Imho its more because there's no realistic way to enforce anything, professional sport has way more resources behind it due to its commercial nature.
Furthermore I find it not that easy to draw the line at what constitutes problematic AI usage, in my opinion even before the current AI hype there were questionable technologies and behaviors by competitors in all categories. The reality is that competitions never have been completely fair, but all within a window of tolerance/ignorance and while the honor system is not perfect, I like to believe that if the deviation becomes too egregious the community will self-regulate and people will eventually be shunned and removed from the scene. Apart from being a troll or trying to make some point I don't see why anyone would even try to compete by submitting straight AI entries, that would be like winning a chess tournament by using a chess calculator aka lame af.
I've asked the team to deactivate the compo rules page, as this is indeed quite heavily discussed by the team at the moment, as well as a general rules overhaul.
Thank you very much for pointing it out; I suppose this was still highlighted as content to be moved over to this year's page by mistake, apologies.

I'd totally see some trolls trying their best to pass AI demos as totally legit.
