student sceners

category: general [glöplog]
ok i am causiously going to post this and try not to evoke any hot flamable substances.... I founded http://www.studentsart.com back in 1987 when i left school.....my mum was a singer and my step dad was a systems analyst...so its not surprising i naturally became a publisher... since the net started we've had some w....rs try to copy our idea and set up similar galleries using similar names....and i feel i need to put a bit more effort in to keep us ontop....i was a rogue at school and i guess thats what attracted me to the demo scene :) being that many sceners have learnt their skills without seeing the need to goto college....anyway to get to the point.....i want to add a programmers art section for computer generated/coded artwork but i do not want to appear to be competing with the existing scene and wondered if maybe i should just simply put a link straight to pouet....or if not perhaps some pouet members may like to upload to our section/but how do i do this withought appearing to be competing?.....its just a thought at the moment....have a good look at the site(i know it needs improving) for example we have a getoart subsection in the fashion section etc etc, and i very much see studentsart as having a political force in the future and a political voice/media power in amongst what currently seems to be overwhelming political shadow over everyone.....as u will see in the info/newsletter our situation ive been running the gallery in a low key way upto now as a volunteer and have made 0 profit(infact i lose money :( ....a scener here has offered to help re-design and make the site more automated so before we do please give your thoughts about a programmers art section (if thats what it should be called?) Many thanks PP
someone should teach you how to decently format your text to make it readable...

some of the work is superb and the older or better artists are encouraged to help the newbies and yes some of that is crap...i find it a bit rude to turn students away when they are only just learning and we do not tollerate flaming of newbie art....maybe a voting system will be the answer?
The more i look on your sites:

http://www.getoart.com/
http://www.ciriefader.com/
http://www.studentsart.com/
http://www.artsanctuary.net/

(all phony domains as the real site is http://www.tbsac.freeserve.co.uk/)

The more is think you're a greasy rat trying to lure people and eventually to make money on their back.

yes we use the freeserve server because we dont make the revenue to pay for a paid server yet...
i spend £500 per year on all the domains they are subportals, so that we can niche market....the £500 comes out of my own pocket....we are currently looking for grant money and investment coz i cant keep on doing it.... ive been offered 150k to buy the site and rights by some fat american but i turned it down.... when you donate £500 a year to some cause then you can call me a greasy rat! :)
ps this is where i HEAL my hearts!
I'm already giving time, that's more than any money can buy.

So basically you've seen an opportunity in the demoscene to support your "cause" (maybe due to the recent increase of media coverage ?) and are coming around in an attempt to recruit people ?
You should have said this right away instead of opening fallacious threads under various nicknames and spamming the urls of your sites all around.

Loser. You could buy many new domains for that money.

yes but there would have been a restriction contract preventing me ....plus i would rather give it away to someone appropriate....the american just wanted to use it to get in with the parents so he could sell them viagra and reclining beds ..... i turned it down out of principle....not only that but 'some' of the designs are worth alot more even if not financial....

the internet wasnt around in 1987 we started publishing with paper.....see the info section about how it started ....doh?

its run by volunteers so please dont expect it to be perfect..... someone has offered to re-design it (eg with php etc) or teach me :) i agree it does need a new backend/and tidy up for resizing etc
ps here is how it started....
http://www.tbsac.freeserve.co.uk/history.htm
then we got the domain when the internet was taking off
"Art"...I'm and "artist" and I can tell you all that means something to me is making stuff I can sell. This way I can buy food and beer and make more "art".

I'm not expressing anything at all, I'm just making stuff that I think other people like so it's easier to sell it.

Especially to fat americans.
once again, the wise words of frank zappa... "art is making something out of nothing and selling it."
