open demo compo at DigiLAB with 650€ cash prize

category: general [glöplog]

DigiLAB is a lousy gamer party held in Porsgrunn, Norway each year. Each year they also put in some effort to make sceners contribute to their competitions, in order to give them some sort of cultural alibi when promoting their party to sponsorts/government etc.

They don't really expect any sceners to actually show up anymore, not after this incident the first year. But the orgas are kinda kool anyway, providing the demoscene-section with quite some cash prizes. They even hired me as democrew hoping i could make some noise for them :) And by this post, i hope some of you will consider making a prod (demo, gfx, music, whatever) for digilab. All compos are OPEN, which means you don't have to be present at the party to contribute or win prizes. Just email you contribution to demo@digilab.no or post it on scene.digilab.no .

Right, 3 questions:

1. How the HELL did they get my former employer (Nortel) to sponsor? And why coudln't they have sponsored parties I went to? I shoulda written those trips off as expenses, dammit!
2. Could you elaborate on Andre Platformer, as A> that term just has killer implications for some people B> Well, duh, I'm one C> ihnw, ijls 'Andre Platformer' D> no I actually need to know.
3. The prize things seem to not add up to 650E... and are there 3 prize thingages or?

I'd write an email but I figure what the heck, ask here and save you the time of replying to 80 people when you could be posting pictures of pigs and lobsters and bass and poking trolls.
Ronald Dumbsfeld:

1. I have no idea. I have nothing to do with the sponsors. I'm just the guy who holds the compos.
2. Didn't quite understand the question :) "Andre platformer" means "Other platforms", in this context understood as "Other platforms than PC".
3. There are 650€ for the first prize for demo alone. Totally arround 1300€.

If you tried to be funny and i didn't get it, i apologize. I'm not very good at detecting subtile pouet-trolling.

This alone warrants the idea of releasing only OSDM monstrosities a that lanparty.

So what exactly happened at the first digilab? I mean, it's not like the nfo of the release you linked to was very informative :)

shifter: well, it involves something about a guy from the "digilab security crew" went completely mad at some sceners trying to make a campfire and drink some beer behind the party-building.. later claming that he had the right to arrest them because he had been in the military police (which by norwegian law is utterly bullshit), and commiting that he had a beretta PISTOL hidden away at the party place, "just in case things got out of control"... He simply made the entire party experience a total nightmare for the few sceners who had actually traveled several houndred km's to come and support the new party. So thats what happened at the first digilab. However, that asshole is out of the picture now, and this is digilab's first step towards regaining some sort of recognition as a demoscene-forum again. Allthough the road to recovery will be long and painfull...

Duckers: #1 is just my amazement, and somewhat my wishing to refile all my expense reports, so I can get cash for more parties (:

#2, um, I'll explain that one later.

#3 was the serious question. And that's a sum of cash that, well, quite frankly is quite cool considering you don't have to show up, and I'm sure you'll actually be sure the folx get their cash.

And we have a week or so, so, yeah... someone otta put something up (:

Hey, that's not allowed in Norway, now is it? Sounds like the demosceners started it!

(I kid, I kid)

The graphics & music compo entries are still missing at scene.org, and the same goes for Afraid by Yaphan in the democompo. It would be nice if someone could upload these entries to scene.org :-)

What happened there? A police raid at the party?
